Went to a wedding reception at a church hall on saturday. Guests left at 11:30 -the family left at 1:30 after the clean up. Big bonus of a hotel wedding is that they do the clean up not you
Our local village hall will clean up for £25, although there was one bride who did it herself,so her wedding photo's include pictures of her with a sweeping brush! Sometimes the mucking in afterwards is fun. Paying a cleaning company to do it afterwards would still make it cheaper imo.MSE Forum's favourite nutter :T0 -
If you wanted a bar you could get a local pub to probably lay one on for nothing as well - as long as they got the takings.
We just bought a whole heap of soft drinks, and supplied red and white wine all on sale or return - Tesco do free glass loan too - so it was really cost effective.0 -
If you want a hot meal then don't discount a buffet. I went to a wedding recently where they had a buffet, but it was lasagne, chilli, cottage pie and a few things like that with hot breads, roast & boiled spuds and salads. They had a soup starter so it was basically like a sit down 3 course meal, but a) you had a choice b) it was about £25 a head cheaper at least! Think they paid £15 a head for it.
If you shop around and do your own table decorations and the likes then a village hall can be as impressive as a hotel, but much much cheaper.0 -
No advice for you really but just wanted to point out that there is a specific Wedding & Anniversary board (a bit further down) where you might get more advice and also tips for saving money.
I did see a thread a while ago (not sure if it was on here or the wedding board) but the bride had done all sorts of lovely things (and there were photos) from her special day.
Good luck.0 -
I didn't have one but I love village hall weddings and wish I'd had one. I think you can make them as cheap or expensive as you want to and they are certainly more personal than wedding receptions in hotels etc.0

Gotta say personally I LOVE buffets at weddings. That is potentially another big tick for the village hall idea.0

Thank you all for the replies!
It's nice to hear the majority of people have enjoyed a village hall wedding!
Defiantly something I am considering, although I know I few people such as my family will probably look down at it. My mum is already dropping hints about how it's my first wedding, I don't want to regret it etc etc.I still really like the idea though.
Thanks all of you!

Yikes, nice to know she has so much confidence in your marriage :rotfl:
There's nothing wrong with a village hall wedding. We had a big do in a hotel, and I loved it. But you're not me; a small, handmade wedding has it's merits too.
I googled 'village hall weddings pinterist' and look what beautiful photos came up:

Is she expecting you do be doing it again?0 -
Lol yes maybe she is
I think she meant I'm only getting married once so make sure it's perfect. (I hope lol):p
I just want to say that I know certain people in my family will look down on a village hall wedding, but I don't think there is anything wrong with it in the slightest!!!:)
Thanks for the link MandM90 I can't get on it at work but will look later! Thank you!:D
