The beam is coming from the upstairs bedrooms/bathroom.

I'll have to ask my neighbours on my side of the street whether their getting the 'beam' as well.

    I suspect that they are.

Try ignoring them. If their 'prank' has no reaction from you they will probably get bored.

    I have so far.

If it were a laser sight from a weapon I'd expect it to be red. Don't panic :)

They're actually pretty common. Green ones that is.

Report it to the police. It's not done with no purpose, it's done to annoy, and possibly harm you if you happen to look at it directly. We're not talking kids finding something they don't realise what it can do, but most people who are very annoying with lasers do it because they realise it can harm, and damage, and annoy/distress people.

People have been prosecuted for shining in the eyes of various people. Airplanes/helicopters, rescue workers, fire men, etc. Most lasers that people buy may not be of the "safe" kind. gotten off markets, ebay, Chinese ones that are definitely bad for your health.

Thus said, when some prat was randomly doing it to our block of flats, they didn't expect to get one shined right back at their face. Stopped doing it after that (or moved on, either way!).

    These laser pointers.

Can the pointer see where the beam ends bearing in mind its going through curtains?

That would depend on the pointer, the curtains, the ambient lighting and - most importantly - the visual acuity of the user. Personally I doubt it.

I just hope it isn't one of these...

Get hold of 4 large mirror tiles and make a corner cube reflector!

Edit: Doh! - That should be THREE tiles!
Never let it get you down... unless it really is as bad as it seems.
