What sort of things are you looking for from a resort? Theres so many to choose from its hard to advise without more info. Theres a resort to suit everyone from bustling 24hr towns to sleepy hillside villages and accomadation ranges from huge complexes with everything onsite to pensions.
  • I ve been to Altinikum (Think this is the spelling) , very nice resort and friendly
one of the most popular I think

Its a few years since I was there though

we are looking for something relaxed(best for families) not 24hr bustling as you need to chill at night

    we prefer small hotels/apartments

We stayed near Olu Deniz using Tapestry holidays. Very good standard of self catering cottages, but with a restaurant and cafe bar on site. It was very quiet , and the staff were friendly and helpful. Because you are quite high up, there is a little breeze which you will appreciate if you are going in August. We have also stopped in Dalmain, but there were loads of mozzies and it was much hotter. We went along the coat to Marmaris for a trip, and really did not think much too it. Far too many people, and aggresive restaraunt owners and shop traders.

Highly recommend the Turquoise Hotel in Olu Deniz. Clean, rooms in sort of chalet type two storey buildings clustered around the (spotless and fantastic) pool, great staff and food. Fantastico massage place, and the OH had a Turkish shave he STILL goes on about lol.

Olu Deniz is a lovely laid back smaller resort, and easy to reach more bustling places if you feel the need to party. Usual souveniry type shops, lovely beach, very good eateries (particularly the Sultan near the beach) and cake shops. Baklava, Mmmmmm :D

Make sure your holiday insurance is good though, I was unfortunate enough to fall quite ill whilst there (not related to the food or holiday), and have to say the healthcare was very good (although the bloodstained shed of an ambulance was a bit scary  ), but would have cost THOUSANDS otherwise.

We travelled with Sunset holidays and got a week B&B for about £180 each inc of insurance, flights etc.

    You will love it.

    Luis.

Icmelar is a very good choice for a quiet family holiday.
Its split into two areas, the old village and the beach.
Its a lovely safe beach - never too crowded and a handful of watersports on offer. The town itsself is all on the flat and is one of the prettiest Ive seen. Entertainment is low key with a few bars and a couple of nightclubs. Most people content themselves with a meal and a wander around the stalls (selling a bit of everything) maybe stopping off at a bar to watch a bit of belly dancing. Theres a market comes to town once a week and of course if you want busy; a water taxi or dolmus round the bay to Marmaris should satisy you.
A trip to Daylan is a must and a few boat trips are well worth the money.

Olu Deniz has a beautiful beach and lagoon. You pay entry to the lagoon as its a heritage site. The beach is well served by bars resturants, showers etc, the one downside is that it can be difficult to get into the sea due to large slippery rocks along the waterline.
From Olu deniz you can get the dolmus to Hisaranou which is a purpose built inland resort with a huge selection of shops resturants and bars. Its closed to traffic at night so its very safe to walk around.
Go a bit further and you hit Fetihya. Big town and harbour. Well worth a couple of visits .

If olu deniz takes your fancy then may I suggest finding a hotel/apartment in the Ovacik area? This is the mountain area between Fetiyha and Olu Deniz(takes in Hisaranou and is well served by Dolmus). The reason being as August is very very hot and at least in the mountains you do get a bit of a breeze.

Whatever accomadation you book, seeing as its August, air conditioning is a MUST

  • Hi,

I went to Altinikum - very basic - very very hot that time year and while i cant agree when people say " you cant spend your money " it was the first time I came back with money.

They love english money when paying.

When I went on the tours - ok they were cheap - instead of getting reps that half know an area we got a local that spoke perfect english and when we went to markets or shops barter us an even better discount..worth asking it local or rep.

They have 2 water parks - cant remember the names but one was like a mini ( wet and wild ) from the states - clean safe - life guards and the other the most dangerous place ever - no gurads - @rse stings from badly jointed plastic bits - lost skin of knuckles etc etc

    Hope this helps

PS I,am sure that accomadation can be bought on a "turn up basis"

PPS: Alot familys that had been turkey before turned up with half empty suit case,s and filled them with with new clothes - ok there is some tat - but if you go the levi,s shop - 501,s £13 quid

I'm going to Dalyan in June Pingu, i can let you know what it's like if you want.

I went to Marmaris about 10 years ago now, went in the last week of August 1st week of September.....BAD MOVE it was sooo hot it was unbelievable i think it was something silly like 129 in the shade ! ()

I must admit i really liked Marmaris but as i said that was 10 years ago, it it now apparently a bit Ibiza'y if you know what i mean.

Take plenty of high factor sun cream with you and as Suki said earlier Air con is a MUST !

  • Went to Dalyan in 2003 and it was family orientated but not fully.

There's plenty to do for just about any age group but it isn't a 'Brits on the !!!!!!' place.

I stayed at the Keskin. It was very clean with two fairly large pools, a play area and local menagerie for the kids. The breakfast was something else as well. All the produce was grown/made by the hotel themselves.

I too can recommend Olu Deniz. Last year wasour first time in Turkey and I have to say we loved it. We actually stayed in Hisaronu and went on the Dolmus down to Olu deniz beach. There is so much to do in that area and the prices are very good for activities.

OH did the parachute jump off the mountain  and was so buzzed with it we are planning on going back. Also diving, pony trecking and excursions - all seemed to me much cheaper than in Spain etc.

People were very friendly and accommodating, I taught my two boys to say please and thankyou in Turkish and locals loved it. One was so chuffed he went and got people out from the back to hear them say thankyou again and again and gave them a free ice cream. Local markets are something to experience.

Can also agree with the recommendation of the Sultan restaurant. Lovely meal and people.

We stayed at Asena Village in Hisaronu - they also own Asena Beach at Olu Deniz. Both nice quality complexes.
