"If you are in debt you should put your pets to sleep"

This is what a colleague said!!
She has proclaimed that she hates animals and has no shame in saying this.
I work in finance, we were training a week ago and we all went out to 'shadow' and listen to other live calls with real customers/debtors. We all had to come back into the training room to talk about what we each heard on the calls. I advised that I listened to a call where SOA was ran through, a woman had two pets and out of work. One of the dogs needed medication that cost for about £28.00 per fortnight.
She shouted out in the training room "It only takes one needle!!":eek::eek:
I am still shocked by this comment!
Someone else said that they do not understand why people keep getting pregnant knowing full well they are in debt, then the animal hater piped up saying "Accidents happen" (she is a single mother herself) imagine if something was said that was tasteless and lacked tact?
What do you think?

I think you did well not to vault the table, pin her down and strangle her with your bare hands....that's what I think

Just be glad that you are able to rise above such nonsense and have a better moral compass.2012 Wins: 1 x Case of Lanson Champagne :beer:0

Shocking comment, glad it's not a majority opinion.0

I think she was rude, thoughtless and crass. However, for myself, if I was in the position of potentially not being able to keep a roof over my kids' heads, and I had an animal costing over £50 a month in medication alone, I think it is a course of action I would seriously consider.
I love all my animals, and would always try to do what was in their best interests, but their interests will never compete with the basic needs of my children. If I couldn't afford the medication (assuming it is a really necessary medication, and the animal would suffer without it), then I would see it as the kindest thing to do to prevent ongoing suffering by putting the animal to sleep. From various experiences, I would not rehome an animal in poor health and needing expensive treatment, as once you have given up the animal, you have no control over what happens to it, and how much it is allowed to suffer.
I am lucky that I have never had to make that decision, or rehome any animal, but if it really came down to it, I think I would. And I would because I love and care for the animals who share my life.0 -
Oh dear. I hope she gets the sack before she upsets customers.
A healthy animal should never be pts.0 -
Surely if your were a responsible pet owner, you would take out pet insurance that could help cover costs if your pet did have an illness. I find it totally unacceptable that people have pets they can not afford. I moved into my own flat with my small dog. I only got a small dog in the first place because they cost less to feed. He has an easy coat, So doesn't need salon visits, and had a healthy mother and father. I also knew, by being so small, he would fit in with my lifestyle however it changed. There was a time where all I could afford was plain bags of pasta - but I still kept up the £12 a month pet insurance and proper dog food (although budget from asda!).
I'm so fed up of people making quick decisions to get pets and not thinking of the long term commitment you have to make. If I go, he goes! If I can't afford to eat, I would make sure he did. I know why, he doesn't. I chose him, he didn't ask to be with me.
In regards to the comment from the lady at the call centre, she needs to be shot.
Don't even get me started on people who have children without planning how they will provide for them without sponging off the government!0 -
Shot? That would be a total waste of a bullet....
Just throw her into a lion cage..
But then again.. the lions may get food poisoning...0 -
That sort of statement is akin to suggesting that those in debt should have their children taken into care, or their granny sold to medical research. !!!!!!! Our animals are part of the family, they are not disposable.0

This makes me so sad. I can't understand how someone can see their pet as a disposable item.
I've gone without myself before to make sure my pets didn't. Why? Because they didn't ask to be brought here to live with me. Try got no say, they love me unconditionally, never cause me hassle, never back chat, always make my smile and cheer me up and all they ask in return is basics. Food, excersise, love. If I couldn't do that I'd be pretty ashamed of myself.
It seems people drop pets for any reason at all these days. And to have an attitude that if you can't afford them put them to sleep shows more about how horrible a person she is that it does anything else. I hope one day someone sees her as disposable and shows hernhownit feels.Sigless0
