Tiscali Max - £17.99 - A Good Deal?

Options
Is this a good deal? Until the end of March, Tiscali are offering 8MB broadband and free UK landline calls for £17.99 per month. I have been assured that if you sign up before the end of the month, your 12 month contract price will remain at £17.99 per month.

I know some have found the Tiscali service very poor - personally I have used it for a few years with little trouble. I'm currently paying £14.99 for a 2MB service, but paying for my phone calls on top of this. Their system suggests that my line would take an 8MB service.

So, where is the catch?

  • The catch is that line rental is not included. I have just taken up this deal last week. My 2mb connection has yesterday been upgraded to the max 8mb which was a nice surpise. But it really does depend on how far you live from your local exchange.

Sounds good to me if you get your BB upgraded plus free geographical calls for an extra £3 a month.

That's what I thought. But at times deals do look too good to be true - and I wondered whether this was one of them.

It's great for me of course as there is no migration involved.

Talk Talk tops it with the included line rental, but I personally am nervous about moving totally away from BT. But compared to the Madasafish deal, this surely is a beater with unlimited UK calls.

As someone that works in the telecommunucations industry I suggest that no one ever moved their line rental away from BT regardless if it does mean you can consolidate your telephone and broadband all within one deal. The simple reason being that should you ever have a line fault the oweness is on your line provider to fix your problems. As BT own all phone lines in the UK (sub lease to other providers) they have to be held responsible for the quality of your line. However if you rent your line from a company that lease from BT and you receive a line fault this company has to go through BT in order to get BT technicians to fix the fault, and finally my point.......... BT will be in no hurry to fix your problem and will take the maximum time they can to resolve this..... after all you are not their customer!!!

Sorry guys a little long winded but got my point across eventually
