Hi everyone im hoping someone may be able to give me some advice, i bought a car from a specialist dealer on the 11/4/12 for the sum of £27500 i did an hpi etc and all came back clear.
Thursday last week after driving 900 miles since buying it the car it developed a problem with the auto gearbox and took it to my local main dealer who then referred me to the specialist engineers who they use for gearbox repairs.
i spoke to the dealer who sold me the car they were quite surprised and said it could be another part on the car the air mass meter, i relayed this info to the gearbox specialist who said they would check that as part of the diagnosis. on saturday tea time i got a phone call from the gearbox specialist telling me there is a serious mileage discrepancy.
the car is showing 52k on the clock but the ecu is saying substantially more checked the previous mots but its only had one. any advice would be greatly appreciated and sorry about the long winded story!:(

you need to face the dealer
its quite likely if the mileage is on one of the body computers (mercedes for example) but been cleansed on the dash then its quite clearly been clocked and im surprised dealer wasnt aware of this prior to sale
might be wise to be sure before you go in both guns blazing though in case its a data error

If, for example its a BMW you can take your key into any dealership and they will read what details are held on the key its self.

This will include mileages of visits and where its upto with servicing etc.

However, why didnt you take the car back to the selling dealer before going to a main dealer to get it looked at?

OP; did you report the problem to the seller prior to taking it to somewhere else for attention? Putting aside the mileage issue until we know more, the seller should have the opportunity to inspect and rectify in the first instance.
    PLEASE NOTE

yes and op spoke to the dealer
    a specialist dealer at that
they referred him to gearbox place
this is why i said go back to dealer soonest see what they have to say but not with guns blazing in case its a case of input error

My point is that the OP should approach the selling dealer before having any work carried out elsewhere otherwise it may prejudice any claim. That's assuming the mileage issue is explainable.

Hi again the car is a mercedes s class brabus, the selling dealer told me to take the vehicle to my local dealer as i live 200 miles from where i bought the vehicle.
my local dealer then sent me to a
their auto gearbox specialist to have the problem looked at! I would also like to state that i had the vehicle into the main dealer for a service and check up 2 days after buying it and nothing was flagged up at that point.
however the vehicle is reading 81122kms on the speedo and the ecu is saying the last dpf regeneration was carried out at 96643kms there is deffinately something strange going on!
    thanks shaun
