I've seen people pay more for their car insurance, just so they get a toy. I just don't understand it.

People like "free" things? It's exactly like when I get into an argument with a cold caller offering me a "free" phone with a contract. That's only on my slow days though :D

I don't think it's wise for anyone to get a credit card just for a toy.

    I got 17 months 0% interest and a toy.
I have a deep burning indifference

Did you put the toy on Ebay for £9.99, like it seems everyone is doing?

    Arn't these marketing ploys wonderful

All the advertising for 1000 nectar points worth £5 for what may not be the cheapest deal.

How about also using cashback sites to get money off the comparison sites to pay for one off Ebay?
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

I thought this was a money saving site?

Ues, so it's correct for people to advise you that there will be consequences of applying for a credit card, both in terms of the initial search and the ongoing use/lack of use of it.

Why are people so wound up about credit reports and searches appearing on them?

What consequences can there be on getting a credit card and never using it.

I already have 4 credit cards I never use stuffed in a drawer, never done me any harm.

If you already have 4 stuffed in a drawer somewhere then,

1: you will need to apply for a card that you do not already have.

    2. If you never use them then that may not look good on other lenders so you may be limited anyway.

    3. If your question was not really about a credit card (because you don't really seem to care which one you get) but more about advice on how to get a meerkat toy for nothing then maybe you have posted on the wrong board..

I mean if you have 4 credit cards already then you have got to be a bit clued up about what one to apply for..

Well I'm not wound up :-) but it can hamper your ability to get credit and if that was a mortgage for your dream home it might be considered a life changing event.
I already have 4 credit cards I never use stuffed in a drawer, never done me any harm.
    Then you're lucky.
    1) It could stop you getting future credit as you have so many available.
    2) It could certainly stop you getting "new customer" deals including free toys :-)
    3) They could be used fraudenlently or stolen and if you aren't checking statements this could build up before you notice.

Why be so dismissive and even insulting of people trying to help you, when there are clearly some things you don't understand.

The consequences of losing a mortgage of havign id theft are quite serious.

If you don't agree then go get the toy, but don't be so harsh on people trying to help (slightly wound up by your attitude but not searches :-)

Why not just buy one if you want one so badly. The cost of one from eBay is cheaper than the damage it could do to your credit report.

I have a few of the Meerkat's, one is a limited Christmas one, I got them from places like eBay and shops. They are going for £5 or so on eBay.

Edit: the point is people are trying to help you, make sure you don't ruin your credit rating by applying for loads of cards all or the sake of a fluffy toy.

I'll bear that question in mind next time you post.

If you don't want suggestions to help you then don't post questions. The forum won't miss you.

Everyone else, thanks for trying to help this twit.

    I'm a very disappointed 'Meerkat-lover' this morning! :-(

I purchased house insurance through Compare the Market and claimed my free toy- I was so excited! I really, really wanted an 'Aleksandr' or a 'Sergei' but unfortunately you have no choice in which one you receive.

Mine arrived this morning- and it's rubbish!! I was given 'Bogdan' the small kid -it's small (yes, I know it's a kid!) and to me the eyes are scarey! I'm really disappointed! :-(

I'm going to list it on eBay- my house insurance is £11.17 a month- if I'm lucky I might be able to effectively get a months free insurance from the sale of the toy??

Also, it took 2 months to arrive- while I was waiting I received emails- 'postcards'- about it's trip around Europe.

My advice to anybody- don't just take out financial products for a free toy!!
