What rights do we have for our private parking space?
Options
Hello guys,
I am hoping someone can help me. We own a small q type house with each house having their own allocated parking space which is in with the deeds of the house.
We have returned from a night away to find a car parked in our parking space and have not been able to find who it belongs to. In the meantime we have had to park on the curb, which I know we shouldn't be doing but we have little choice.
Does anybody know what our rights are in this situation are and what our next course of action should be?
Thank you in advance.

Police wont bother with it as it is a civil matter for starters.
As for stopping it happening again, if you actually own the space and it is in your deeds then buy a cheapish parking bollard to stop folks parking there in the future.
As for the one that is parked there now, well you could try bumping it out of the way, or some how get it on the road then report to police as causing an obstruction. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0 -
I'd start by ringing the police and seeing if its stolen.
(thieves often park a car up for a few days in case it has a tracker fitted).
Put a note on the windscreen asking them to move it.
Contact DVLA - for a fee they'll tell you the owner (you have to show just cause).0 -
I've put a note on the windscreen and checked their reg to see if it's stolen (but it's not coming up as such).
I'm pretty sure it's a neighbours friend who is parked there but they appear to have gone out, either that or they are ignoring us when we knock on the door. She has had other people park in our space before and she is well aware that no one else should be parking there. I'm 99% sure the car does not belong to someone who actually lives around here as I've never seen it before and we only live in a relatively small street. Plus all the actual residents have their own parking spaces and historically this happens with friends or family of the other residents.
Thanks for the help so far.Be Kind, Work Hard, Stay Humble, Smile Often, Keep Honest, Stay Loyal, Travel When Possible, Never Stop Learning, Be Thankful Always and Love0 -
I've had this problem in the past and it's extremely annoying to say the least.
I hope you get it sorted!0 -
Thank you...after a bit of investigation I now know for sure that the car belongs to a friend of our neighbour. Now I guess we just have to wait until she returns!Be Kind, Work Hard, Stay Humble, Smile Often, Keep Honest, Stay Loyal, Travel When Possible, Never Stop Learning, Be Thankful Always and Love0

Block it in so they have to come and ask you to move.0

The trouble is, the layout of it means I would be blocking others in if I park behind it which obviously isn't fair on others. I've found the girl in question on Facebook and I'm deciding whether it's worth sending her a message to tell her to move her car.Be Kind, Work Hard, Stay Humble, Smile Often, Keep Honest, Stay Loyal, Travel When Possible, Never Stop Learning, Be Thankful Always and Love0

Phone a mobile mechanic to remove all your wheels and brakes. Give the location of your parking space and leave him to do his work.

Great idea.. assuming you're an SIA licensed vehicle immobiliser. Otherwise doing that is asking for trouble with the police. Stupid isn't it someone can park on your space and you can't do a thing about it other than ring the council about an abandoned car and have them lift it / contact the RK.0
