Help Need Broadband ISP - No BT Line!!!!

Options
This is for a friend, and I'd said I'd help him!

He is on dial up broadband which is soooo slow. Anyway, he's looking to change to broadband. The problem, he doesn't have a BT phone line, he's with NTL (now Virgin?) for his phone (think he gets free eves & weekend calls) and I think tiscali for his dial up (totalling over £20 a month basic cost which he never goes over). To get a BT line will cost £125 which he won't pay.

He makes odd landline calls to landlines at weekends, occasionally in the evening and refuses to call mobiles! Technically, I suppose he is what you would call a low user. The majority of the companies I've looked into for him need a BT line and it is just not worth him paying.

Does anyone know of anything that he could use as I'm sure in thinking there must be a joint package, e.g. phone and broadband which will work out cheaper for him.

The only thing I've tried which he can get is Virgin 2 for £20 broadband and phone (free weekend calls) because he is on a cable line.

Any help greatfully received.

Thanks

as its an NTL (virgin) line - he will be limited to just Virgin unfortunately
  • Oh Damn, so basically no option unless he pays the £124 to get a BT line!

Even with the BT line installed, there will probably be £11 line rental to BT to pay on top of any broadband cost - you'll do well to beat the 2 for £20 option. What were you expecting to pay. Even TalkTalk will be £21 (albeit including all landline calls) and that's after you gone through the minimum term sticking with BT line rental.
  • After a bit of 'uming' and 'ahing' the Virgin line was the best bet - we got a bit confused as Talk Talk had sent through the junk mail saying we could get their 'free broadband' offer but we discovered you needed a BT line for this!

Thanks, Virgin it is for now.
