I am on the fund raising team at church, and we have done most of the things mentioned above. Popular items inlcude a bottle tombola ( which includes decent bottles of alcohol to bring the adults along), having a stall at your local town gala and getting yourself noticed helps. We did a combines bottle tombola and cake stall last year.
Fairs and Fetes are always popluar and one stall has an up ended shoe box with a letterbox cut in it. In the box is a bottle of whiskey and coming out of the letterbox are lots of pieces of string,.People pay their £1 and attach their name to a string or strings. At the end of the day hopefully someone will have picked the right string. If no one has - well - you have the bottle for next time.
Ladies Evenings are always a big hit, we recently had Virgin Vie, Partylight candles and local independant jewellers, crafts, interior furnishers, People pay £5 and that gets them a glass of wine and nibbles. All demonstrators gave a raffle prize. What every the event make sure you have a raffle as well.
Table top sales and jumble sales - charge an enterance fee and sell refreshments it all adds up.
Events we have held in the past include, quiz night, summer and Christmas Balls (adults only), family disco, celidh evening, on going book stall - bring in your old paperbacks sell them on for a donation, recipie book, guess the baby, silent auction,(lot of hard work not much renumeration), coffee morning, table top sale.
Trouble is you find it is always the same people doing the organising and always the same people handing over their money!Jane 21120 -
Table tops are always a good idea. Give everyone a box (get them from local supermarkets ask them to leave anything they don't want or don't sell (if you have storage of course) then have e jumble sale with what they leave. You would be amazed at what people leave. (Have done this for various charities and it does work!)
If you have any kind of baskets given fill them with suitable freebiees i.e manicure sets, choccies. which you can get through various websites (as we know) stick a bow on them and make them raffle prizes or price them accordingly.
You will always find the same people help but thats' life!!0 -

Hold a beetle drive. Families love it. You can have a raffle and a cake stall. As I'm from up North what about a pie and pea supper?
We have a raffle on every Friday family assembly. It manages to raise £20 to£25 every week.
Balloon race . I'd have to find out details if you were interested.

DDs school held a karaoke disco last night. They charged £2 to get in and sold drinks and snacks. They limit the number of acts and no child is allowed to be in more than one group - not sure if it was pulled out of a hat or on a first come first served basis.
Currently baby sitting for SIL who has gone to a quiz night.7 Angel Bears for LovingHands Autumn Challenge. 10 KYSTGYSES. 3 and 3/4 (ran out of wool) small blanket/large square, 2 premie blankets, 2 Angel Claire Bodywarmers0 -
Remember the gaame of beetle?! You have the head, body, six or eight legs depending on how long you want the game to last not on the anatomical precision (that sounded a bit clever??) two antennae, two eyes, tongue. Numbers on the dice 1 through to 6 are for each body part so legs are no 1 eyes number 2 etc., you draw a beetle and people tick of each body part as they throw the dice or what is more fun is they draw there own and then you can do a prize for the best beetle at the end. Usually done in groups of four per table and then the winner of each table plays until you end up with a superior champion.
There used to be a game called BEETle I think it was made by Waddingtons and it was all plastic bits that you slotted together as you threw the dice great fun!!
The idea is to charge £1.00 (Approx)per person for entry and then extra for pie and peas or whatever food, run a tomobola or raffle to add to the funds.
The good thing with this is that children can play and if you do a prize for the best drawn Beetle usually??! a child wins. However, I must add that is quite scary how competitive Grandparents can be!!!!0 -

Race nights have been a good source of income at the primary and secondary schools my children go to.
DDs school also have a 50:50 draw. It is £1 a month I believe and the prizes amount to half the money raised. I'm not sure how it works exactly (keep meaning to find out) but there are three cash prizes every month. They've been doing it quite a while so I guess it's worth it.
They also have a wear what you like day before events such as fetes and bingo evenings and people take in prizes/cakes for the cake stall/bric a brac etc instead of paying cash for the non-uniform day. It's a fab idea as it cuts down on the amount of things we are getting asked for and they always have loads of things for prizes and stalls.

Hi - We are a newly resurrected school PTA and would like to target parents whose companies will 'match funding'.
We think it will have more impact if we can list the companies ..i.e " Do you work for......."
Does anyone kow if there is a list available anywhere of the major companies0
