Will paypal pay bank charges???
Comments

Just phone up the bank and say it was unauthorised, no notification, broke terms of direct debit guarantee and you want an immediate refund as per the direct debit guarantee

Peter, I suggest that in future you link your Paypal account to a credit card and not to a bank account.
That is what I do so if Paypal ever do withdraw money as in your case, at least it comes from a credit card account which gives me plenty of time to react.
There are other advantages to credit cards over bank accounts too.0 -
Hi there... I just purchased two ebay items but now Paypal is insisting that I set up Bank Funding because otherwise I would have to fund the purchases with a credit card (and they would incurr the fee) presumably.
No matter what I try and do I can't get past it so now.. the payment and also my delivery will take longer... I am not happy.
Paypal and Ebay are so greedy, I am tempted not to use them... presumably bank funding for them is cheaper... will they pass these savings on??? yeah like hell they will
I don't want to set up a direct debit with Paypal, I don't trust them one bit...for the very reasons highlighted already here. Plus the credit card does give me additional protection that I would otherwise not have (especially important with internet purchases).0 -
You can still set the payments to come out of your credit card - just remember that the default will be bank funding. My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
When I started with PayPal my first purchases came from my bank account and not my credit card. I think I deleted the bank account leaving the credit card as the only option. I can’t remember exactly what I did but now my credit card is the default option for payments which is the way I want it.frivolous_fay wrote:You can still set the payments to come out of your credit card - just remember that the default will be bank funding.0 -

If you have a direct debit from a bank you have the direct debit guarantee that works in your favour.
If you have continuous authority on your credit card (i.e. with Sky) you cannot cancel it, you can close the account and Sky can still take money from the card.
I wouldn't put it past PP to use this too if they had the details on file?
CC gives better protection from sellers, but from PP themselves?Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
That does not worry me...If you have continuous authority on your credit card (i.e. with Sky) you cannot cancel it, you can close the account and Sky can still take money from the card…
I have had continuous authorities for many years with various organisations with very few problems. When a problem has arisen I find a strongly worded fax to the offending organisation usually works.
There are pros and cons to every means of paying bills, including Paypal, but, in my opinion, credit cards are the best for most situations.
I have the final sanction because if I don’t agree with the credit card charge I just don’t pay it. In my experience credit card companies back down once they know you are determined not to pay and are justified in not paying.
I’m a bolshie git when I’m riled.

Really, because paypal are whining as I've cancelled my direct debit now. I didnt' know they will take a credit card too

I totally agree with moglex on this one. The DD gaurantee will cover the OP if paypal did not give sufficient warning before taking the money. Contact your bank and have a chat with them about the payment. If you can prove you got no prior warning then they should refund your money and all charges caused by this.
Let us know how you get on.0 -

I'm not prepared to risk my credit rating though.Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0
