Want to keep old contract, but get a new phone
Hi,
I have an old O2 mobile contract with unlimited internet, but with a not great smart phone. It's an 12month old LG Optimus I think - someone gave it to me as they had upgraded. I pay £35 per month.
I'd like to get a new phone, but as I use over 1gb of data a month, I don't want to give up my contract. I could easily use more, but with 'control' I can keep it to 1gb. The issue is I listen to radio from around the world all the time over the internet, which I want to keep being able to do. When at home I use the home wi-fi.
So, can anyone advise the best way to approach getting a phone upgrade, but while keeping my current contract? I can't move to 3 as they don't cover my house, but I can use T-Mobile, O2, and possible Vodafone, although the reception is pretty weak at home.
Thanks in advance

Hi
Can you afford to buy a new handset outright? If so, just stay on your current contract and buy either a SIM free handset or an O2 PAYG one.0 -
You'll struggle to get an upgrade from o2 and keep your unlimited internet, don't think they do unlimited internet any more.
Neither Orange or Vodafone do unlimited internet either so they're not an option based on what you've said above.
Three do unlimited internet but you've already dismissed them so that leaves you with T-Mobile: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/pay-monthly/0 -
How many minutes do you need? £35 is a lot when your not paying for a handset.
Also have you considered Giffgaff? Do they still do unlimited internet?0 -

£35 a month sim only is not great VFM nowadays, my simplicity is an old O2 tariff with unlimited internet, tethering, picturem messages and video calls inclusive, and is £20.42 /month, I simply buy my handsets outright, no need to worry over a comittment for 24 months and I can assess if a favoured handset is really worth the outlay to me.0 -

I don't need many minutes, or texts. I do make international calls, but these tend not to be covered by anyone. I presume they buy access from one of the big guys - do you know who that would be?£35 a month sim only is not great VFM nowadays, my simplicity is an old O2 tariff with unlimited internet, tethering, picturem messages and video calls inclusive, and is £20.42 /month, I simply buy my handsets outright, no need to worry over a comittment for 24 months and I can assess if a favoured handset is really worth the outlay to me.
Yes - but I can't downgrade the contract I am sure without losing the internet
T-Mobile do unlimited? I'll check that out then. Since they have merged with Orange we now get reception (we live in central london, but a basement flat, so it needs a receiver at just the right place)Three do unlimited internet but you've already dismissed them so that leaves you with T-Mobile: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/pay-monthly/
smartphone (sorry - the quoting didn't work) I suppose I can afford to buy one outright, but since O2 are making money off me monthly anyway, it would be good not to have to buy it outright too!0 -
Have a look at Talk Mobile from the CPW group, unlimited data from £12 per month.
If you don't mind a cashback deal, then even cheaper and cheaper again if ordering through Topcashback etc.
Decent phones - Galaxy Y, Galaxy Ace, HTC Wildfire S (refurbished phones, but mine looked brand new).
I've just took the Galaxy Ace, with all cashback it will be £2.75 per month (need to pay £12 per month though). Only for ipad data and minutes and texts aren't needed.
Mobiles.co.uk was the supplier and Talk Mobile is via Vodafone.
