    Take a look at this thread to see just how powerful the word "free" is in marketing terms, and also a perfect demonstration of how fools and their money are easily parted - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3893955

    Thanks for that link.

    Although not involved in either of these scams I'm always interested in companies using hidden - of semi hidden - terms to take money from people.

    What is interesting about the linked post is that it contains a section, taken from a government publication that contradicts everything I have ever been told or read about cancelling a 'continuous authority'.

    Up until today all I have ever heard from so called 'experts' is that it is impossible to cancel a continuous authority. There have even been tales of banks honouring such an authority years after an account has been closed and then coming after some poor unsuspecting customer for the money. (I have never believed these stories are exactly what the purport to be because I'm damn sure that a bank would manage to cancel such an authority if the person died and the knew they could not get any money back. :D)
    There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.
  • I got the free hairdryer for my daughter, we used it and after 2 mins sparks flew out of the back, burnt 2 holes in her dressing gown, the burnt holes have what looks like a small spring coil burnt into the dressing gown material, and blew my electrics, these are dam right dangerous, i have emailed the sun and still waiting a reply, i didnt know they had been recalled, when i tried to return to my Tesco they told me to contact the sun,
    Free or not it still should not be dangerous.

    They missed out the details of the quality control which presumably went something along the lines of
    * Is it the right price?
    * Is it pink?
    * Is it roughly hair dryer shaped?
    * Does it have a bit of wire and something that will fit into a UK socket attached? (we won't go as far as requiring it to meet the legal definitions of a UK plug...)

    I really do get the impression they must have shopped around for the cheapest Chinese company that could supply something pink, electrical and theoretically useful.

  • Last evening I was going to dry my hair and thought I would try my new Fabulous hairdryer. How I wish I hadnt. I switched it on and after about a minute there was a loud bang and a flame shot out of the nozzle and burnt my finger which has blistered. I was going to dry my little grandaughters hair first, thank goodness I didn't. I am really angry is there anything I can do?These are dangerous. My hand is very sore and swollen. Have contacted newspaper who seem concerned. They have asked me to return hairdryer to them with photos of hand.

    I found this on their website.
