Why can't I get a toaster that works?!

I must be really lucky then (or just not fussy) as my Asda smart price kettle and toaster are still going strong after 4 years for less than a tenner for both lol0

One of the interesting things about kettles failing is that, in my experience, it doesn't seem to be the main electrics that fail. All the failed kettles I've seen for the last few years have failed because of the lid. Either the mechanism has failed or, if a simple twist or push fit, the plastic has gradually become deformed by the fraction of a millimetre that it takes to make opening and closing all but impossible (even when scrupulously cleaned).0 -

hmmm that makes me wonder if it's something to do with the water? We're not connected to mains water, we have a private well, so there is no fluoride or whatever it is they add to water? Or even scale?0 -
My kettle is about a year old, it's looking old now, but only because of limescale! I have to descale it every so often. But a few days later, it comes back. might get a Brita filter kettle next time!0

Why can't I get one that fits the bread?
I've had 3 over the past few years and with every one the bread stuck out a good inch beyond the top of the toaster.
Is bread getting bigger or toasters smaller?0 -

There's a difference between "inexpensive" & "cheap".
Mid-priced usually means paying for the name &/or looks.
Whatever the price, it can still be cheap.
£5 iron from woolies still going strong after 10 years!
£15 kettle & toaster set (Argos), 6 years!I wish I could fly, right up to the sky! But I can't...Famous Last Words: Bus?... What B....

We'd use the grill in our oven but it incinerates toast in seconds, and as for sticking a slice on a toasting fork into the woodburner, well, talk about ashes to ashes...
I know they are expensive but we have had our dualit toaster now for over 20 years. We have had to replace the element twice in that time which I don't think is that bad really. Makes the best toast EVER!!!0
