No, Mandy, you cannot claim Early Repayment Charges (ERCs) which is what you mean by redemption penalties.

    @jacrock and @mickg

This link: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/mortgages/article.html?in_article_id=417037&in_page_id=8 lists exit fees for most major lenders (but unfortunately not Bank of Ireland).

In general, though, if a lender tells you that the fee you are due to pay is £x, then the correct fee is £x. There's no good reason why you should pay less than that. Lenders aren't into making up the figures.
  • I have written to A+L and they are looking into it. I have already made a claim at the time to get it from £295 to £225. However I think that I have used the incorrect figure. Is the MEAF:

    1. 'Redemption and Sealing of Deeds' £85
    2. 'Non panel redemption of Deeds' £150

I thought it was £150 so I have only asked for £75. But if the figure is wrong I need to write to them again and ask for more!

    Thanks

Hmm, Financial, I've answered this same question on another thread, so I won't repeat myself here.

I tried to phone Northern Rock to see if I can find out anyninfo on my 2 previous mortgages with them, but they are shut today :(
I don't imagine I will be able to claim anything back even though it does look like the fees went up twice during the time we had mortgages with them though as we don't have any info on the mortagages at all.

I will call again on Monday before work - but I feel a brush off coming on! lol

Can those people who have received their claimform from Abbey tell me which information (apart from name, adress, mortgage details) is required?

I was with Abbey from 2003 - 2005 and was originally quoted £99. Unfortunately I cannot find what I did pay when I switched mortgage (looked through my paperwork 4 times now  ).

Can I claim if I don't know what, if any I paid?

    Name of Mortgage Owner
    Account no.
    Address of mortgaged property
    Opening Date
Date of Mortgage change if applicable
Date of additional lending if applicable
    Closing Date

    Your Name
    Your Address
    Contact phone no.

    Signed Date

Just send it back they will do the checking of the amount paid and amount when you took out mortgage for you.

    hi,
I would like to know if you can claim charges from a homeowner loan (2nd charge on mortgage), I remortgaged from Alliance & Leicester last year, and also paid off a homeowner loan to Capstone mortgages, would I be entitled to a refund from both? Please can someone help me with this?

    Regards.
