I had a mortgage with a company called GE Money Lending when i remortgaged last year they charged me £6200. In my contract it only stated £6100 so i paid £100 less. But surely along with the banks over charging us cant i claim this back as well as its an extortionate fee i think. :beer:0

hi,
I would like to know if you can claim charges from a homeowner loan (2nd charge on mortgage), I remortgaged from Alliance & Leicester last year, and also paid off a homeowner loan to Capstone mortgages, would I be entitled to a refund from both?

This may have been asked before so forgive me if I am repeating it here.
I was charged £175.00 Redemption sealing fee together with a £75.00 Deeds release fee from a company called brittannic Money plc when I remortgaged In April 2003. Are these both MEAFs. If so they are both high charges for the time - it makes you wonder what they are charging now! I can't find a listing for Brittannic Money anywhere and I believe they were linked somehow to the Royal Bank of Scotland or may be The Bank of Scotland.
Papers are in the loft but not able to get in there at the moment so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks0 -

No. You can't.
They told you what you'd pay if you repaid the mortgage early. You repaid the mortgage early. So the fee was due.
You chose to repay your mortgage in full knowledge of the fee due. What's the problem?Everyone needs something to believe in.

I am claiming against Abbey who I had a mortgage with from 2002 - 2005. I have my paperwork which clearly states £99 exit fee...
Hello Lisa
You say you have the paperwork in which the exit fee is clearly stated - exactly which piece of paperwork, please? I ask because Abbey want to charge me £55 for redeeming a mortgage I took out in 1990, and none of the paperwork I have (including standard and special conditions) make any mention of any charge at all. Thanks.

I just phoned Halifax (08451 203033 for the dedicated line)..
Slightly off topic, but as it's concerned with saving money perhaps the guardian of this forum will allow it!
My understanding is that non-geographic phone numbers - at least those beginning with 0870 - cost more than calls to geographic numbers, and in some cases actually earn revenue for the owner of the number. So before phoning, checkout this website:

which may help you to save a bit more money!

Hi,
Can anyone help? I took out a £49950 endowment mortgage (SVR) with Bristol and West in Sept 1990. I have just received a redemption statement for March '07. They are charging me £175 admin fee. It was to be £195 until recent FSA rulings. I have never altered this mortgage in the 17 years I've had it. £50 of this £175 may be for releasing my deeds to me? So what is the additonal £125 for?
Much obliged.

Mortgage was in joint names - since divorced and both parties are requested to sign acceptance document - no contact with ex husband for some-time - any suggestions?0

Can those people who have received their claimform from Abbey tell me which information (apart from name, adress, mortgage details) is required?
I was with Abbey from 2003 - 2005 and was originally quoted £99. Unfortunately I cannot find what I did pay when I switched mortgage (looked through my paperwork 4 times now  ).
Can I claim if I don't know what, if any I paid?He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.
