Best way to pay?

Hi all

I've got a new 0% purchase card to pay for some new windows over the next 15 months. However, the window company have stopped taking card payments. Their quote is hundreds cheaper than the next lowest so I still want to go with them but I'm not sure how to go about it. The only 2 things I can think of are:

1 - Pay 'er indoors the amount via paypal. I know this will incur PayPal fees but due to the quote being so much cheaper and not paying interest it will be well worth it. However will this be treated as a purchase?

2 - (last resort) take the money out as cash and do a balance transfer to my barclaycard at 6.9% for life of balance.

I know neither of these are ideal but I doubt I'd be accepted for a loan having just got this new card. Any advice? Or other ideas?

I might be wrong, but this, combined with the cheap price, reeks of a company teetering on the brink.

Be cautious about handing over money to them. They might not finish the job. In fact they might not start it!

If they won't even take a deposit by credit card (which gives you Section 75 protection on the whole purchase) then I'm inclined to agree with opinions4u.

This practice is often a prelude to administration/receivership.

If it looks too good to be true then it's likely it is too good to be true. Be very careful.

The cheaper price is because the owner is as good as family. They have only stopped taking card payments temporarily due to a problem and will be taking them again in the future.

The only issue I have is how to pay and get the best deal on interest without taking any new credit out

As he is as good as family, ask him if you can pay him in monthly instalments after the windows are put in.

A good idea. Then you can use the card for all your shopping, repaying just the minimum each month. The cash you would have spent on your shopping could then be applied to paying-off the windows installer.

Possibly, but you'll have to divulge the card provider...unless it's a secret!

Family or not, you still dont have any idea of their finances.

Ask them when the card payment will be up and running and ask if you can pay a bit per month then the whole of the balance by card when you can.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

    It's the m&s card. 15 months 0%.

The window company don't do finance so I can't pay in monthly installments. Ive already got a very good deal from them, I don't want to take the pee.

Basically all I need to know are if PayPal will treat it as a purchase so that it is eligible for the 0% deal and if anyone knows of any better ways than that.

I appreciate the comments regarding concerns about the company but I can 100% say I'm confident there won't be a problem.

Thanks for all taking the time to reply

So go buy some Sterling travellers cheques from M&S with the card.

There's a 1% fee, but they're treated as a purchase so qualify for 0% interest for 15 months.

CAUTION: Ensure your bank will cash them (ideally for free) before committing. Who do you bank with?

Thanks I didn't know about that.

I bank with HSBC. Can you cash them in anywhere or do they have to be paid into an account? I.e post office, bureau de change, etc

    Thanks
