upgrading an O2 contract at carphone warehouse

Hi all, So my phone contract is up next week and I really want the One X. However O2 are being very slow with the updates for this phone, so I am thinking of going to carphone warehouse and getting an unbranded one from them as my upgrade. I assume that it is the same as upgrading in an o2 store (ie no chances to customer number ect just new tariff? Has anyone had experience of this? I've always upgraded via O2 over the phone but I am sick of how slow they are with firmware updates.

I am pretty sure it's the same, but you are likely to get a better deal at CPW as a new customer, then transfer your old number to the new contract within O2.
Also, don't ignore CPW's daughters e2save/mobiles.co.uk/osps and p4u/d-a-p. And quidco/tcb.

Not all O2 customers can upgrade at CPW. Some can only upgrade direct, best check.

Mine can be according to o2. Not sure if it is same as doing it via o2 though

CPW employee here. Upgrading at CPW is exactly the same as upgrading directly through O2. You might want to try the "I'm leaving you for a better deal with another network" approach with O2 and they may give you a nice discount, if you're looking to save money.

For me the unbranded phone gives.more value to my contract!
