Abbey/Santander Loan

Hi I had a rather large loan in excess of £10k with the Abbey which probably ended 10 years ago, fuly paid. I have contacted Santander for the details of the loan such as the Loan number etc and they insist that they don't hold any details older than 6 years. Does anyone know 1. if im too late to make a claim, 2. How I can get the details of this loan, who to contact as they told me that the branch will hold nithing past years, 3. It was a joint loan with an ex partner, do I have to have his permission to press ahead with this. Thanks for any help.

You could send a SAR letter requesting the Bank provides all information it holds on you. However, without documentary evidence of your own, a successful complaint for a loan this old will be an uphill battle.
You would indeed need your ex-partner to countersign any complaint and he'd be entitled to half of any redress awarded.

I don't think it would be a problem for the ex to give the go ahead, the problem is finding the loan details or even the number. Would a credit agency like equifax hold the details, happy to do the SARs letter but what if they come back saying they don't hold the information for longer than 6 years?

Then it's cost you £10, but at least you know there isn't any point in continuing...
Might your ex have some paperwork?
Do note that this really is a very old loan and isn't even on the cusp of being active in the last six years.

I've spent all afternoon in my attic and I've found the loan application credit agreement, it was taken out in 1997, no boxes on the form to to tick for PPI but completed by the bank with a PPI amount of £47.29 per month, it was completed for me. The thing I can't remember if it was done over the phone or in branch - will this matter? so what next? Do I just go straight to the Santander PPI complaints section with my claim? Thanks

Well, you've jumped the first hurdle successfully. Now you not only need valid reasons for complaint, you'll also need statements representative of the years earlier than six years ago which (even if upheld) the Bank will likely decline to pay

    Only with the proviso above..

You'll need to prove that the PPI was paid to term end (or whenever it actually ceased)
You'll also need to have valid complaint reasons in order for it to be upheld.

The laon was paid back fully by me, my compaint is that the papers were already completed all I had to do )and my other half at that time) was sign where they'd put the x. Do you think that is enough? Sorry, you've been a great help, I must be melting your head by now, Thanks again for all your help.
