Wireless printer that saves on ink

Hi there!

I am currently looking for a good wireless coloured printer that is economical on ink. my budget is £100 (or less) and must be Airprint-enabled as well. i will mainly use it for basic Office documents, .pdf files (like say a plane ticket or a document from College) and the photos i took during holidays (max. size 5x7 or bigger).

Now this is what i know. HP's are really good but expensive on ink. Canon are the "mainstream" and well-known whilst Kodak ones are cheap to buy and run on ink.

So, any suggestions guys?

A Canon MG5350 like I bought recently ticks all the above boxes and does work with Apple stuff over WiFi. Has a 5 cartridge system that is the most economical type.

Typical price when I bought was £130 with £30 cashback, by coincidence the cheque arrived this morning. Once the cashback offer ends, I suspect that there will be discounts to take it below £130.

Scanning can also be done wirelessly. Cheap chipped cartridges to be had too, just not sure how good.

    Are there any more suggestions?

Is it safe to say that as long as the printer is wireless or wifi enabled does that mean it is both AirPrint and this new Google Cloud Print compatibles as well?

Made more research and after going to sites such PCWorld, Argos, Amazon UK i came to 3 unique all-in-one wireless coloured printers:

    1. HP Photosmart 5510
    2. Canon Pixma 4150 and
    3. Kodak Hero 3.1

They all fit into my budget and specs (mainly below the magical £70 mark, being Wifi & e-print enabled, SD card slot, 4800x1200 print resolution) and all available.

A dark horse is also in my list which is the Advent AWP10 which ticks all boxes plus a higher 9600 dpi printing capability.

I just hope that these printers have firmware that are upgradable and Google Cloud Print enabled as well.

So, what you think guys? Which ones would you go for?

Did you say economical on ink? Then you need a 4 or 5 ink tank one and check in advance people are succeeding with substitute chipped ink tanks with the model you have in mind.

now you found the 3 you want to buy, go to ebay and type in the model numbers and see what the ink costs.

    Taske care!

Kodak went into Ch11 in January, effectively broke. Advent, cannot really be recommended, it is rebadged stuff, usually poor quality.

Here is the April list of printers supportinting Airprint, correct me if I'm wrong but I only see the HP5510 on the list? http://ipod.about.com/od/usingios4/f/Airprint-Compatible-Printers.htm

Only the US arm of the company - the European division will continue to operate as usual.

Technically correct, but I would not be too confident that Kodak will be in this business for too long..at the moment, existing supply contracts are all having to be restructured etc...I would suggest while there is a question mark, it would be safer to keep away?

So far Kodak seems to be the one who's economical on ink i.e cheap ink cartridges and printer doesn't use much ink.

If a printer is not AirPrint enabled but has Wifi and is e-print can I still print from my IPad to that printer?
