Wow, thank you! In my opinion Evesgam Vale is nicer than Portmeirion, so I ordered this set: http://www.readersdigest.co.uk/shop/clearance/while-stocks-last/evesham-vale-4-set for 36.99 + TCB!
That's nice, it's like the Portmeirion Pomona........

I was 55 a few weeks ago and had a good look at my life - one of my 'regrets' was not having a dinner service I liked at this age - I've got horrible bits of ikea. Now I hope I've got nice dinner plates and pasta bowls - missed the other things but can collect from now on! Thank you very much!£216 saved 24 October 20140

I have a lovely dinner set which we bought out of wedding money ( 2nd marriage so 43 before i had a nice set lol) but I only use it onl high days and chrismas as it was so expensive...waste really but as its evesham gold i think daily use would tarnish the trim.
I am so happy now to have a lovely service which was cheap enough for me to feel i can use it everyday yet look expensive enough to impress:j:jNumber 35 :j0 -
Been to Portmeirion at Longton, Stoke on Trent today, plenty of botanic garden at the prices on the website, also half price Evesham Gold, some nice Paddington and Hungry Caterpillar reductions, as well as heaps of other stuff (not as cheap as the botanic garden reductions). Please God, help me stop spending!0

Totally understand where you are coming from YL, one of the things I've decided since being on my own, is to have things I love and love to look at, rather than cheap and cheerful. Of course I get things as cheap as possible, because I can't afford to pay or want to pay, full price. But never thought I'd get Portmeirion for such a brilliant offer. A real joy.
Thanks again snap ant!0 -

I must admit I have completely the opposite opinion.
I had an expensive Dinner Service as a wedding present, and bought extra bits myself over the years.
I still have it, and luckily it would still be considered fashionable - but it has only been used possibly once every 2 or 3 years.
Similarly I have cut glass crystal sherry, brandy, whiskey and champagne glasses.... which have only been used about once or twice ever.
If I was starting out again, I would not bother buying/investing in anything which was either so 'precious' it was rarely used - or like the brandy glasses - never used because no one in the house drinks brandy !!
What a complete waste of money, and cupboard space for all these years... and when I think of all the dusting and cleaning I have done of these things all these years.
Such a waste of time and effort.
Yes buy beautiful things, but I would never again buy anything to use so rarely.0
