New Look will only give credit receipt for items bought onlin

I bought items online from New Look, a range of sale and full price. I decided to return a few to my local store as it states you can within 28 days, this was within about 5 days of receiving the items by post.
I get to the till to be told that it's exchange only on sale items. I asked where it stated that anywhere on my receipt, the lady then went to talk to someone and came back to say she would do it this once. When she finished returning them on the til it printed a credit note, the woman then told me it was because it was after so many days of me making the order that it produced the credit note, she then said something about it being after 6 days.
I asked to speak to a manager & was told none were available! Can they actually do this? The total money spent comes to over £50, I wouldn't be bothered if was alot less but I'm going on holiday next week (hence buying clothes) & wanted the money back. I'm not sure what my rights are here but surely this isn't right?!?

    Nope, you have the distance selling regulations to fall back on, see here;

    I believe that, if you bought online DSRs (Distance Selling Regulations) come into play and you can reject items (as you did) and be refunded.

    Other posters know more about these than me and may be along shortly

    Hi thanks for the replies.I've read the dsr but I can't understand it in relation to buying clothing. I'm a bit paranoid the longer I leave it the less chances are I will have of being able to do anything. Thanks again :) oh & I forgot to say I took the credit note because I didn't have any energy to argue with the assistant any more, is this going to make a difference?

    New Look can be funny about taking things bought online back in store, particularly if you pay with paypal. Also each store seems to make their own rules up about returns.

    Yes, it certainly could make a difference.

    It could be seen that you were offered a refund in the form of a credit note and you accepted that offer.

    Quite a few retailers do this with returns to store. If you had sent back the items in the post same as they where delivered you would have received payment back to your bank account.
  • I was told by the assistant that there was nothing more I could do& that they would do the same if I returned my items online?

    There's no mention of sale items being excluded from refunds if sent back in the post on the website, only if returned to store.
