Usb help please!!!!

recently bought a new pc when put anything other than mouse and keyboard in usb eg external hard drive and memeroy card reader having to leave overnight before will open them up have been in bios and checked plug and play is enabled have reinstalled all drivers have reinstalled windows have checked all usb ports doing it on all of them any ideas welcome

    Its a custom build so no make as such. The motherboard is a asus m5a78l-mlx v2 and the proccessor is a amd bulldozer 3.6ghz quad core. We are running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

    It might not be the computer, it might be one of the USB devices. I once encountered a memory card reader which, when plugged into any computer, rendered said computer into a very slow thing going very slowly, which problem would magically disappear again when the card reader was unplugged.

    know its not the usb devices as they work ok on our other pc and laptop

    Don't discount the possibility; there are too many variables to consider.

    I am away from home so don't have anything with me, but from memory......

    In the Asus mobo handbook, there may be an item referring to legacy usb? Can't remember which way round it should be, but try changing the valus to see if it addresses yr problem.

    Doesn't disabling that prevent you from using a USB keyboard to access the BIOS?
