debt letters sent to my house with an unknown name...

I just got a letter addressed to my house but with a strange name.
Ive lived in this house for 20 years, so it's a bit bizzare to me that this letter has arrived in my post.
I had look at the letter without opening it. Put the light on and put the letter up really close and saw something which said "amount due £80".
I think someone has given a fake address to a debt collector.. WHat should I do?

write on it "not known at this address" and put it back in the postbox
EDIT: Or open it up, ring them and tell them that you have lived there for 20 years and you don't know anyone by the name on the letterOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0 -
Does it have a return address? Send it back as 'not known at this address'. Bear in mind it might not be the last though... if it is a debt collection agency's letter they don't give up easily"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

They have been untold people on here in tears after opening such letters and starting a dialogue with the company.
With theses sharks a hit is a hit and you are a liar pretending to be someone else, call them and they have your phone number as well.
Take good advice from above when its given, DO NOT OPEN AND CONTACT.
Its not your name, its not your problem.
Straight back in the postbox or regret it !Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

So what do I do? just write "not know in this address" and send it back to them?
Do I have to pay for postage or what?0 -
Just write on it "Not Known At This Address" and pop it in the post box - no need for a stamp.0

These happen alot, people on public transport give fake names and addresses when they are caught without a ticket. I would phone the company involved and explain that the person doesn't live there. They are used to this and have a process to deal with it.
They will probably ask you to fill a form in and send it back. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
