K thanks that's an interesting article. Sad thing is I'd already done the 'main two' and hoped I'd be able to get it a bit cheaper. Cheapest seen so far is 407.04- that auto came up as comprehensive with Privilidge and auto put extras on I think.

I should be better at this because I've done sales before, but what kinds of things would you say when ringing up to batter the price down. I think before I've been like "ohh... please do it a bit cheaper." Is it best to name a price that's low that they won't be able to go down to then 'accept' an ok price or just state an ok price right away and say 'take it or leave it'? Thanks for your help.

I've used all three. I do find women at call centres occasionally are more responsive then men, but only about 60/40. I insure with one company who reguarly do cashbacks thenselves, this renewal I rang up, they wouldn't do one, so I left it rang back a couple of days later, told them I wanted to insure with them, but I'd had a cheaper price elsewhere, (true on both count), so they knocked off the legal cover, (I never take it, but they always try to sneak it past at renewal), reduced the premium by another £10, and offered £20 cashback on top. It always helps to have a better quote, or at least sound like you do. Out of the three methods, take it or leave it never normally works, usually they leave it. The compromise works best, but out and out begging has paid off too. (Is that your best price? I can pay now if you can do better etc...)

Yeah I think I'm going to be pretty upfront with them because I've worked in call centres... "Look... I know you want to get the sale and I want to get a good deal, I'm not going to cancel if it's a good price so it's a win win situation..." That kind of thing. Yeah I could 'sound like I have a better deal' too :)

Re the clearing cookies, if you do what I suggested above (shift, control, delete), it will clear cookies on the server you are on (I think), so if you wanted to do all this cashback stuff, you could keep another server for that - eg Internet Explorer for your day-to-day stuff, and Mozilla Firefox for Quidco and/or Topcashback.
