Diagnostic Assessments for JSA

When I signed on this week I was booked in for a diagnostic assessment. I've already had my initial long winded review where you agree your job seeker's agreement and I have signed on once after that.

I asked what the appointment was diagnosing and she didn't know (she was an assistant and didn't seem to know much). I have done a quick google and it seems to be linked to those needing training etc which would be fine but at 3 weeks into my job search and a professional I'm not sure I need to discuss any further training at this stage!

Anyone explain to me what this appointment is for exactly?

Nothing to worry about, all new claimants will have this - it is the second part of the "long winded interview". The first part was to check that you meet the conditions of JSA, and the diagnostic is to discuss your job search further and ensure your aims are realistic.

You did, but it was part of the "long winded interview" - they have split it in two.

I've been offered a job, which I've accepted, but which doesn't start for another month due to HR, OH and CRB. Apparently, if I want to claim JSA up to when my job starts, I still have to attend the diagnostic interview.

It's crazy! What are we going to discuss? The weather?! Waste of time...

    Then don't attend.

By not wasting your time? How would they win?

They would stop paying me JSA.

Then it isn't a waste of time, is it?

You'll discuss what you will do if HR, OH and CRB mean you no longer have a job to go to in another month.
