The phone call is just to confirm your details and tell you that the dreaded ESA 50 form will come in the next two weeks following which you have four weeks to complete it. I would suggest a visit to your GP to make sure that they are aware of the problems that she has. It is a very anxious time I know as going through it myself but try not to worry too much.

Thanks for that ill visit gp with her before returning forms, also is it wise to see a welfare rights advisor?

Depends how confident she is to complete it. It can be difficult to get an appointment.

Thanks, its just shes always had help from welfare rights as she cant cope with the forms, but it was years sinse she had to go through this, her old doctor was great and fully supported her,we only live 45 mins from our previous gp,do you think going to see him and asking for a brief letter would help things, and maybe showing the evidence to her new gp?sorry to ask all these questions its just a stressful time lol

Family member soon to receive form re IB to ESA . . can members let me know if they were accepted into support group on form completion alone without a medical due to confirmed serious diagnosed illness they have had for many years.

Also wondered if there are particular illnesses that might allow claimants to secure ESA support group.

Yes, I was placed straight into support group without any medical.
Dear Lord, I am calling upon you today for your divine guidance and help. I am in crisis and need a supporting hand to keep me on the right and just path. My mind is troubled but I will strive to keep it set on you, as your infinite wisdom will show me the way to a just and right resolution. Amen.

See the doctor she is regested with, not another one in the practice and update them on her current state of health.

Do you have reports from people involved in her care?

Physio and OT reports, discrict nurse etc. are just as important as hospital consultants.

The dr she is registered with isnt at all pleasant, she sees a regular dr every time she visits, can we request to be registered under the dr she sees the most?

We were told by our PCT we couldnt as we are allowed to see our favorite doctor anyway, I dont like the doctor we are registed with but its worth it to see them just once to update them on your wifes current health just in case the DWP do send a preboard report to them.

I was told that it really doesn't matter which doctor you have been seeing as the form from the DWP will be filled by someone from the practice and not necessarily even one of the doctors but just someone going by your notes! That's why it's important to make sure that you've told them as much as possible.

  • I have just been put in the support group. It took 4 months since I sent back the forms. The award letter does not state how long the award is for. I tried to phone the DWP but got bored listening to Greensleeves. I'll try again next week.
  • My OH has been on Long Term IB for as long as I can remember... They were recently sent a letter to tell them they'd be getting moved onto ESA... The form came. Fileld it in, with the help of http://www.dls.org.uk/advice/factsheet/welfare_benefits/employment%20support%20allowance/Employment%20Support%20Allowance.pdf

    (page 8 onwards..)

We had an answer within 10 days of sending the forms back and was moved onto ESA at the same payment rate as IB.
