Just to add on about Smart meter compatibility...since all suppliers are trialling, none of them may be the ones confirmed in the end. If you switch, the meter is "dumbed down" which means it is converted to a standard arrangement that is already available to the market. This is done in the various industry databases via data flows. It just means that any extra functionality such as remote reading, payment type changes, etc...no longer are in use.
I did see the article early last year about Bgas and at the time they had used a remote technology that other suppliers weren't.
Of course, it hasn't stopped Bgas forgetting to dumb some of them down hence the new supplier had to correct it, so smart is open to process failures just like micro generation was.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -

Yesterday I did some price comparisons and Scottish Power's Online Fixed Price Energy July 2013 came out cheaper than BG's Online Energy. Obviously, quotes were based on my personal usage, so your's could be different. I was offered the BG £50 too, but Scottish Power could save me £130+ annually, and if you go via TopCashback you could get £42.42 back aswell.
Shop around before you make any decisions
Im also in the same position as everyone else I.e my websaver 11 deal is ending at the end of may 2012 and therefore im trying to see what everyone else is doing lol. Thank God I found this thread in the nick of time.
Can I ask which price comparison site you used and which criteria did you use? ( Did you put your yearly cost of gas + electricity or the energy in kwh used? Also did you extract this info from your websaver online account? )
I personally wouldnt mind staying with BG, but it seems that the new deal that they are putting me on is going to be expensive. I would prefer to stay on my exisiting and let them extend my contract but im almost certain they won't lol.0 -
I either use Switch with which or Energyhelpline for comparisons.
Never ever use costs for comparison always use your annual consumption in Kwh.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

Hi Thrifter,
Sorry for the delay in responding, only just seen this. To answer your questions, I went to moneysupermarket first, and then gocompare. I also used my previous year's consumption for dual fuel in kwh's, taken from my online BG account.
I would definitely shop around, as I can't see BG letting you stay on the websaver 11 tariff after the end date. You could find a better deal I'm sure!!0 -
We're only with BG for electric but we would only save the princely sum of £1 by moving away from them based on our annual kwh. Needless to say we're not bothering.0
