Temp job lied ... now agency blackballed OH

Some companies treat temps appallingly. A previous company I worked for was brilliant to work at if you were full time but I've seen the pressure on temps, completely thrown in at the deep end.
One girl started in our department and on her first day they had her writing award entries. Absolutely ridiculous, how can someone write an award entry for a company they know nothing about?! She was a nervous wreck because of the pressure put on her and then they asked her to leave saying her work wasn't up to scratch - and she had to do the walk of shame out of the office. She was a nice girl who did the best she could in the circumstances. I actually sent her an email saying how lovely it was to meet her and wished her luck but never heard from her again, I think she was devastated and also probably blacklisted from the agency.
OP in my opinion your OH needs to clear his name, I would send a letter to the manager asking for a meeting to "discuss some inaccuracies" with the company. Whilst the agency said they would find OH some work, I would be concerned that they're just saying that to make life easier for themselves.0 -
Cookiee, don't be disheartened that the agencys 'dream jobs' have already been filled. This is a wellknown trick used by agencys to get more people on their books. These jobs simply never existed in the first place, they just want people to apply for them so it looks good when they go to the client with a load of cvs.
(I know because my DH's friend owns an employment agency)
You DH probably did nothing wrong, sometimes companies take on these temp to perms simply to save money. They probably had no intention of keeping him on in the first place.July Win: Nokia 58000 -
I'm not saying that this is relevant in this case but I have heard that some agency workers have supervisors who are not British by birth, they may be Polish, Lithuanian, Irish, or others. The supervisor does a good job by keeping all of his subordinates hard at work, meeting targets, and generally running a tight ship. He is helped by favouring his own countrymen working under him until the agency has a totally one nationality workforce at the place of employment. If the agency sends other nationalities to work at this place of work the supervisor soon makes up reasons why they should sack this individual, not because of any shortcomings in the workers attitude or abilities but because he doesn't necessarily fit the supervisors ethnic requirements.0

Hi all I thought I would update you on what has happened this week.
Well after speaking to my OH and him getting some advice from another employment agency, OH wrote a letter of complaint to the agency about how he was treated, about the verbal abuse he got on his mobile from the agency and how he feels that the accusations made by the company he was working at has made him feel.
OH is also under the advice of A4E, who despite negative press have been great with OH. They called the agency and asked to speak to the main person there to get an answer on what happened. It was confessed to A4E that the person who left the message on OH mobile was out of order but he had had a bad day. They dont know why the company OH was working for complained, they had no previous warnings about OH, infact they had praise the 1st week saying OH was hard working and made an effort!!
Anyway, since then the agency have not returned any calls that OH makes to them. He calls everyday between 3/4pm asking for work and all he gets is someone will call you back. Like he hasn't heard that before. He is going to not bother with this agency anymore. He is registered with 4 other agencies and has 2 interviews next week that look promising.
It just really makes me angry that agencies can treat people like dirt. I know that everyone is looking for work and you have to push every inch to get a job but at the end of the day everyone registered is a person looking for a job.
Thank you all who have commented and fingers crossed for next week :A0 -
OP.. In the past I`ve worked for a couple of agencies and I can remember a few instances where me and others were just let go. No warning, nothing. It`s the way they operate, they are very cut throat.
I`ve been in my current job two years next month but before that I did three months with one agency. The longer I worked for them the more it became apparent that they were liers and would tell me lies to get me to do certain jobs. On one occassion they said that a guy I had previously worked for did`nt need me the next day and they wanted me to go somewhere else. I`m not sure why but I remember texting the guy and he texted me back saying that the job was still on! Basically the agency wanted me to go to another job because I was more capable of doing it than somebody else and sent somebody less qualified to the guy. Why the agency did`nt just tell me this I`ll never know, instead they lied and I caught them out, they also looked stupid infront of the contractor.
I think this could be the case with your OH, instead of be honest, they`ve fabricated a lie or complaint. I think you OH should find a new agency. HTH0 -
An anonymous letter outlining your dismay and also stating the number of colleagues who agree with said letter and then posting the letter to the relevant areas of the business can go a long way.
Its a shame you or anyone else in that place didnt have the capacity to work together and overcome such ridiculousness.
Its like sitting there and taking it...over and over. A hundred and one people can come first if you want an excuse.
sick of these idiots online - can someone just ban them. pr1cks0 -
I have registered with agencies before, but the best roles iv got (Perm) have always been direct applications. Your OH should be looking to apply directly to companies on their websites for the field he is in, some now dont use agencies due to the costs and lots of people applying direct0
