Iphone 4s with orange

Hi all
I have been due an upgrade for over a year now, so I am currently on a rolling contract with Orange. I would like to get an iPhone 4s, with the best possible deal available.
I''ve compared talk plans across the main network providers (Orange, Three, Vodaphone, T-Mobile, O2) and Orange are AWFUL in comparison!!! The best plan I've seen for me is with Three.
I've been with Orange for over 7 years now, and ideally don't want to leave them (but money talks, so if I have to I will).
I read other threads about "haggling" with Orange. Some people say do the usual thing of calling them and haggling a better deal. However, other people are saying don't haggle, just ask for your PAC. They go on to say Orange will call ME before I get my PAC, in order to try and keep me. In other words, it's making Orange come running to you, rather than vice versa.
Has anyone tried asking for their PAC instead of haggling?
Bit worried to incase they don't call me. Or even if they do call, their best plan is a million miles away from Three's...will they really try and match it??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
