few years ago I used to drive a VW golf which was broken into and damaged multiple times (in London, Birmingham, coventry...I eventually got fed up and sold it)...not a single time I had the theft investigated by the police...they just issue a crime number and leave you to your own devices...actually twice they did not even bother coming and they issued the number over the phone...you know what?..every time I hear about government cutting their job numbers I feel happier that money could propably go to harder working people0

Traffic police drive around in posh top of the range cars. Wonder where Police get the money for that?"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Rosie,
depending on the colour, you can get quite good results with coloured wax/polishes available from all good car stuff shops (and others will be half the price of Halfrauds)
If she is not comfortable doing it herself, may I suggest she joins some of the MG Owners forums and pleads for help, Xpower used to be a good one for modern MG's and I am sure someone will be A) Local, and
willing to help.
If you are near Milton Keynes, I have a set of polishes and my trusty electric polisher - just no time

And some absolutely useless police officers, give them some real work to do and they can't be @rsed, but when it comes to traffic offences or section 5 public order (which they don't need to gather any evidence for to get a conviction) then they're happy
I had a parked car written off by a hire car. The driver ran off and tried to claim the car had been stolen. The police convinced them to admit they were responsible for the accident. If they had not done this my third party insurance would not have covered my losses leaving me to cover the costs.
I have had repeated damage to my car over the last 20 years but do not contact the police as there is nothing they can do without useable evidence.0 -

However, not bothering to view CCTV footage to get useable evidence as happened in my case and others who posted here, that doesn't suggest that they try very hard.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

Don't know where that idea came from......
Usually they're downgraded versions of the fastest car in the range.
The Police Vectra was a Vectra VXR (280bhp V6 Turbo), but with all the interior and exterior of a bog standard Vectra SRI, no nice seats, no expensive wheels or spoilers.
It's pretty standard configuration for most traffic cars.
They also receive massive discounts from the manufacturer, which is just as well because the Police kit/conversion probably costs more than the value of the car.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Around 20 years ago I had trouble with panels being kicked in and it being keyed. The police pretty much bent over backwards to get it resolved and it turned out it was a gang of kids who had 'issues' with my sister.
Fast forward to a couple of years ago where I had wheel covers, and on a separate occasion, the black plastic door trims removed from the car (this one caused some damage to paintwork). Reported to the police and they weren't interested. Their advice, 'don't park it there' (outside my house) and 'get a camera'. Other cars here have had tyres slashed and one has been keyed quite heavily. It's not even a rough area!0 -
Keying a car is a cowardly act, worryingly most of the people caught doing this are actually OAP's. Fearful of direct confrontation, but angry that THEY parked too close to your car, or because they assume it's a loud/racey car.
One was even caught damaging all the cars in a street because he thought they were an eyesore when he walked through.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Seems to be common agreement that the police can't be bothered to do real work and investigate real crime. Simply because it doesn't earn them any money, quite unlike catching speeders for example which is nice and easy.0

Amen to that, my friends car was hit last month, the driver sped off and despite witnesses, reg no and even the actual location of the offending car, the Police didn't want to know.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
