Take ten minutes to visit your library. Books, CDs, DVDs and possibly free internet

Just a quick note in support of libraries. They're an amazing MoneySaving resource, and if you haven't been in for a while, it's worth popping in for 10 minutes. Book borrowings are free, CD & DVDs usually need paying for, but are cheaper than video shops and of course in most libraries free broadband internet and lessons on how to use it.

I always get the latest books from my library rather than buying them. If they haven't got any of the latest titles in stock they can always order it for you. Only costs about £1.50

My local council is having a big drive on Libraries at the moment and are inviting people to come and have a looksee....:T They are also upgrading several local libraries and making them more inviting for all ages....#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Great post Martin. Also you can read the daily local and national papers for free. My local library also has Loot.
Also I can access the library online from home and check if books are in stock and reserve them if they are out of stock. I found the link to the library via the local council's website.0 -
unfortunatly i dont think my library has updated the books since i was at school - forced to buy mine (get through a lot) but with the amount of people who borrow them i may aswell be a libraryYes Your Dukeiness0

I love my library.
1. I borrow CD's for 90p and then burn them onto iTunes.
2. I browse waterstones.com to find the bestsellers and then I log onto my library website and place holds on them. (Saves a fortune.)
3. I use the library doctor to recommend new authors to me when I get stuck in a rut.
My friends are snobby about libraries but I can never understand this......
library books are the most loved books of all. They get protective covers and they get read hundreds and hundreds of times. Much better than being read once and then put on a shelf to gather dust. (This reminds me of a 'Friends' episode with Pheobe and her bike that she can't ride! It was the bike's destiny to be ridden!)
I did claim a minor victory last night though. I made my housemate quickly pop in with me and he ended up asking me if I could get out Tina Turner's CD on my card as he wanted to burn it!0 -
Ours do magazine on loan too, and children's audio books are free to loan on CD or tape.
They are priceless for a long journey , and there are a wide range of titles suitable for teens too eg Artemis Fowl ,Harry Potter Northern Lights0 -
My university library saved me a tonne on text books for last semester. Doing the same this semester. Loves libraries. I have paid about £5 in fees but not alot compared to the £200 my fellow students have spent on books.~Diminutive0

Being a music lover my library has been an absolute boon in fostering my pursuit of new music. Been using it for 30 plus years now - when I was a poor teenager copying vinyl on to a C90, now I hardly have the time to listen to all the CDs I'd like to from my local library.0

Not exactly something you should be happily admitting to though.... that's breaking the Copyright Law!!
Where I used to live has a HUGE library which I was always using for Games, DVDs, CDs etc.
Unfortunately I moved and the one in town is small, plus it's closed at the weekend.
Bizarrely Watford (where I work) doesn't even have a public library!!!0 -
