Replacing an iPhone

Hi guys,

Looking for some advice please. I have an old iPhone that I inherited from my DH. I'm only PAYG and not on an iPhone tariff so occasionally (usually after my top-up anniversary has expired, coincidence?) get a message saying "you've used £1 of data today so won't be charged anymore" despite the wifi being off (eats my credit up so fast) so I'm looking for a replacement handset.

Any suggestions? I don't need a smartphone as I'm at home all day and only really text (make the odd phone call) I do like seeing the text conversation thread though. I also don't want to spend too much :) Oh, a decent-ish camera wouldn't go amiss, but not interested in playing music or games.

Any advice will be gratefully received and thanks in advance.

AC

I don't see how this can be a reason for replacing. If the wifi is off, all smartphones use mobile data. However, AFAIK, iPhones are known to use small amounts of mobile data after waking up even if mobile data is switched off and wifi is on.

Just call your provider and ask them to disable the mobile data on their side. Switch the wifi on if you wish and use it on wifi for free.

As Grumbler says ... use wifi.

Also in Settings / Network I think you can turn off 'Network Data'.

Just to add, it's on its last legs, which I probably should've mentioned before :)

Not if mobile data is switched off. If you switch it off you won't get picture messages though.
