He doesn't do anything that needs to be secure, and now that I'm a 'dab hand' at installing windows 7 we could always go that route again !

Now you have the system rebuilt, and have (presumably) installed the programs etc you need, it's a good idea to create a system image and a system repair disk which together would allow you to get back to the present state should you ever need to.
The image can be created on an external hard drive or on several DVDs. The repair disk requires one DVD.
To get started, click Start, type Backup in the search box, click on Backup and Restore then Create a System Image on the left menu, followed by Create a System Repair Disk
Be aware that the image will be large and take a while to create.How do I add a signature?0
