this is where it may get tricky - do you know what type of files the infection was found in, and which partition they are stored in? You may find you need to re-format the other two partitions also to clear ramnit completely if some of the infected files are sitting in them......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Oh my goodness......
I am at the format stage and there are 3 partitions

Disk 0 partition 2 ............ 142.5 System

Yes, it is.
The Windows Format option is not very good and I wouldn't trust it to completely eliminate the virus. So after re-installation, we'll check the Boot Record.
Thanks everyone it's all done and working well. DS has lost a lot of the 'bloatware' that he never used so that's brilliant
Before he downloads too much 'stuff' how do we check the boot records please?
PS I have used AVG antivirus but I prefer Avira, Avira seems to be having scaning problems at the moment- are they much the same?
thanks

Don't forget to bring everything up to date - Windows, installed programs.... everything.
Outdated, vulnerable programs are an attack vector for malware.

I replied to your PM, but the Inbox was full.
If you aren't having any problems, then perhaps best to leave it for now.0 -
avira's great, best of the free av's. MAKE SURE java's up-to-date, that's been the target of a lot of the current nasties. Latest version here:-
