  • i would try your local cats protection...they are likely to help get this cat wormed and fleaded for free if they think you may help keep an eye on it.
he sounds in a dreadfull state though poor kitty. i wonder if he returned back on his own and maybe the new owners still want him but think he is lost elsewhere? your neighbour sounds evil , i cant believe he feels no resonsibility for it!!

RSPCA says as it fed and watered their not going to act in this case and said that it would be a better option to take him under my wing and see to him myself with my vets care.

the new owner who neighbour handed him to i suspect dropped him back in the area not wanting him, the area is miles away from here and to get here he would have to cross two very busy dual carriage ways 6 busy main roads with busy traffic lights and content with usual hazards such as dogs humans.

it is egg thats stuck to him, he reeks of rotten egg and yolk is still in him as is the whites of it.

looks like he been bedding down in an engine bay he has oil on him and smells like powersteering fluid (wich is harmful to animals) so i'm going to get him in tonight, bath him assess his overall condition close up, ive seen ring worm in animals before so know what to look for and i see no evidence of such at this stage, but he is riddled with worms from his anus poor guy, no wounder his back end is bald with the irritation in his back passage he's probably trying to soothe himself.

i have 4 cats myself, a pair of ragdolls my indoor cats and my DSH tabby's this white and ginger DSH if very friendly with tinkerbell the tab, they enjoy being together, lucky enough ive had her neutered a while now so kittys is going to be zero with them being so close.

:kisses: Well done, if only there were more people like you that were willing to 'get their hands dirty' to help this more mite.

Charities gets tons of calls asking for help but loads of the times the person wont actually lift a flipping finger themselves to help or even co-operate if the charity needs to trap them.
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!

But to be fair, why is it that person making the call's responsibility? In this example, the cat has had two owners who should have taken responsibility for this cat. I agree that it's fab of OP to get involved, especially at their expense, but I'd also think they'd done more than enough to spend time tracking down a rescue that could help. Yes, it shouldn't be the rescue's problem either but they've decided to go down that route - and they have the option to say no if they don't have the resources to deal with strays.

True, what if the caller knows nothing about animals other than seeing one obviously in trouble (try giving a cat a bath if you've never owned one!) or can't afford to pay the vets fees/flea treatment/worm treatment costs. It gets reported and nothing done?

I'd contact your local Cats Protection, they can sort him out at the vets at necessary and get the so called owner to sign him over to their care. They can then foster him out until they find him a nice home. I'm just picking up an elderly lady moggy from CP at the weekend after she was found wandering as a stray in a terrible condition. They never put animals to sleep unless absolutely necessary to prevent suffering and work with some wonderful vets (I can vouch that our branch does).
Good on you for caring about him this much and I hope it all works out.
