Vodafone DD for £1358...usualy £21...
I wonder why???
DH had phone nicked on plane to Jo'burg on 16th March. Landed 17th and realised and reported on 18th (yes we do have a call ref no). My phone not nicked and both on same account.
My phone line disconnected immediately to outgoing calls, dunno what happened to his.
Despite this and several mobile calls to Vodafone from SA when they advised of irregular usage they have seen fit to bill us for £1358.
I checked the bill on 20th April and the text I received said usage to that date was £10.
Our bank fortunately bounced the dd and they will get a letter tomorrow informing them not to apy anything by dd to vodafone
After several texts to other phone on the plan advising us of irregular usage we decided to cancel the contract and go onto PAYG.
Since then they have seen fit to bill us for £1358:eek: yes it bounced - just as well, 'tis easier to get blood out of a vampire than a refund from vodafone.
In the meantime I have had a call from a rather abusive young man telling me it was a "no brainer" that I should stick with vodafone monthly payment contract rather than go onto a payg sim.
After repeating the phrase "no brainer" several times I realised that he probably didn't know I had given birth to a still born daughter in 1990 with anencephaly (no brain) and why should he? I just put the phone down on him.
Oh joy.
Wonder if they'll take us to court?
Wonder how much compo we will get?
Here we go - another battle with vodafone

Vodafone? No.Wonder if they'll take us to court?
They will sell the debt to debt collectors that will add their fees. Not likely to take you to court either, but possible.
You realise how this affects the credit history, don't you?
What do you mean?Wonder how much compo we will get?
That said, Vodafone are right. It is your responsibility either to protect your sim card by a pin or to insure yourself from unauthorised usage if the phone is lost/stolen.0 -
We reported it they gave us a refernce number and told us not to worry, the phone would be disconnected.
If they didn't disconnect OH phone but chose to disconnect mine instead that's their problem
Yet another c*ck up from vodafone - and after 18 years with them I've endured many.0 -
Nicked on the 16th.
Reported on the 18th.
Calls in SA are 80p/min (calls to other countries are probably more expensive, but I am not sure). Mobile internet is £3/Mb.
1380/0.80/60=29 hours of calls (or 460Mb).
Without seeing the itemised bill it's difficult to say how much you really owe.
Yes, £1380 is unlikely, but not impossible.0 -
I would phone them up, quote the reference number and ask which number was reported lost/stolen. If they quote your number then you need to explain that they disconnected the wrong phone, but then you will then have the hassle of proving you gavce them the correct phone number in the first place. We reported it they gave us a refernce number and told us not to worry, the phone would be disconnected.

If you were not outside your minumum contract period it may go up with an erly termination fee. When did you last upgrade and was it a 12 /18/24 month minimum term?0 -
Hi mrs mum,
As grumbler has mentioned, these calls could have been made before the phone was reported as stolen.
If you would like me to look into it for you, you can contact me via the email address here with WRT135 FAO Heidi in the subject.
If you could include a link to your post and a contact number, I will get in touch.
Many thanks,
Heidi
