We've just returned from seeing some friends get married in Crete. The weather was gorgeous.

Weddings are about more than the weather. Sorry to be a pompous arse but if anyone's main criterion for a good wedding day is that the sun's shining, they're in for a disappointment when they realise that it's actually about the next 40 odd years, not whether it rains or not on one particular day.

Plus if it's really hot, all your make up slides off :D

Haha thanks for all the advice everyone, i didnt explain myself very well if im honest, me and my fiancee have always wanted to get married abroad in the sun for many reasons thats i dont really need to get into but one of the things is the fact we do not want a big wedding where 100s of people come just close friends and family and also the cost of weddings over here compared to what we have looked at abroad seems really high. Anyway we have now decided to push it back to end of may so more options and a bit longer to save!

Pushing is back is a good idea because by the end of May a lot more places in Europe will have nice weather.

I got married abroad in the US near the beach, and I definitely got better pictures than I would have done here. And yes we had a lovely sunny day.

The one place we saw in Europe that we agreed we would have chosen if we werent already getting married in the US, was Kefalonia in Greece.

We saw a couple going to their reception there and the area was beautiful, the sun was setting over a bay and they would have got some lovely photos, it looked like they were going into a local taverna they had hired out. The island is where Captain Corellis mandolin is filmed if youve ever seen that?

I think we were actually there the last week of May thinking about it!

You should think about whether you want to get married actually on the beach or near it - we chose not to as we had too many people there and you were not allowed to put chairs on the beach so they would have had to stand so was suggested if you only had a handful of guests - which I think is a good idea or beaches would become full of weddings! And solved the problem of people in our photos but we still had the sea as a backdrop in photos etc.

We got married in Cyprus, if you google cyprus weddings you'll find all sorts. A lot of the hotels are more or less on the beach and most do weddings. Good luck, it's fab.
