If your loyalty card has a barcode on the back, scan it instead of reaching up to swipe it in the card reader, saves at least half a second.0

Self service machines are great for getting rid of heavy loose change or breaking open a piggy bank, as you can put as many (or as few) loose coins in as you like without annoying a checkout operator.
I usually hoard pennies and throw them all into a self-service machine, and usually only have to pay 3p or so on the credit card to make up the difference0 -
Personally I love self-service checkouts, but then again I'm a socially awkward numpty. I get terribly embarrassed and panic that the checkout assistant is judging me by what I buy0

If the staff ask you to use the Self Service checkouts, tell them that you would prefer to try shelf stacking first until you build up a bit of confidence.0

The best self-scanning system is the hand-held devices in Waitrose where you scan and pack items straight into your trolley as you shop. Not only do you save separate scanning/packing at the end,but the device prompts you if there are any multibuy offers available.0

At my local Tesco after 10-30pm there are no tills open, only S.S. Times when i'm really awkward i refuse to use them and the staff it seems have to put your stuff through for you. Maybe they just want rid of me.:cool:0

If the machines usually complain about using your own bag, try putting it down with your first scanned item inside it - just be sure to choose an item where the weight can vary significantly so that the scales accept it - a daily paper (ideally a weekend paper with many variable size sections), or a bag of potatoes. Probably a great way of smuggling out something valuable too - but that would be stealing.0

take your own bags its annoying waiting 20 mins for the assitant to find some then getting charged 5p for the priveledgeReplies to posts are always welcome, If I have made a mistake in the post, I am human, tell me nicely and it will be corrected. If your reply cannot be nice, has an underlying issue, or you believe that you are God, please post in another forum. Thank you0

If you want to be offered money-off coupons, don't use self-scan in Tesco. Unless its part of an advertised promotion (eg 5p off a litre of petrol) the self scan tills don't print coupons along with your receipt, although the manned tills sprew them out like confetti.0

With Morrisons if you get the bags ready first you get a warning un- identified item in bagging area - I often just scan the lot and then pack after paying!
Have to scan the item without touching the tray otherwise it thinks you are trying to weigh something!!
Brolly is a bit of a trick as it thinks you are trying to buy your own brolly or steal it!!0
