Thanks to everyone for their invaluable advice. Evokit, I will look into your recommendation.
We also just got a quote for the same job from a large, well known London plumbing service company.
You wont believe this but they quoted £10,800 (inc VAT) !!!!!!!
Makes the initial quote seem like an absolute bargain....0 -
This thread has been very useful for me too: I live in London and need a new bathroom and was wondering what would be a reasonable range of estimates, so thank you everyone.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

£600 for building materials?????? what are they doing building an extra floor to the house???
Get an all in price, if they are good they know exactly what the need and what it costs.
10% for cash..... that means they are not paying the vat back or bank charges so 20% is realistic.
10-12 days....... yowza.
Up north a week is more than enough,
are these prices purely labour????? I need to move south.:rotfl:0 -
Have you checked if they got a valid liability isurance don't just take their word get the number and check it online.
I'd be careful about paying cash, too many times do we hear about folk paying cash and being ripped off,Not only ripping off the taxman.
when a builder or any workman asked for cash i'd walk away.0 -

Yes just the labour. But then we got another quote which was £10,800 for the same job which is quite frankly ridiculous. That's more than £1,000 per day on labour costs.
Another couple of quotes also came in at the £4k mark too so maybe that is just the going rate these days for SW London.0 -

I would believe it (the OH has been doing plumbing and heating in SW London for 30+ years).
Does the large, well known company begin with a 'P' by any chance?
Btw...£1000 a day???...I wish.:rotfl:

Not in the part that I come from it ain't. Its still £ 1k too high for the job as described or perhaps I need to put my prices up to more readily meet people expectations.londonsaint81 wrote: »Another couple of quotes also came in at the £4k mark too so maybe that is just the going rate these days for SW London.
