Only alternative is train but no idea how long it takes from Wembley to kings cross after a match?0

Use the M40 - and choose a station along the route of the chiltern line .... goes through Gerrards Cross - Beaconsfield- High Wycombe (all the way to Birmingham). Park near the stn of your choice (they nearly all have decent size car parks) and then get a Chiltern Line train to Wembley Stadium Stn.0

That's a good idea too. Be careful though as not all trains stop at Wembley Stadium Station, even on event days.
Some of the above stations are a fair disatnce from the motorway, although that could save time on way back.
A more convenient station could be South Ruislip. M40 on to A40 leave at Polish War Memorial Junction (straight after RAF Northolt on left). Turn left in to West End Road. Follow for approx half mile to T Junction lights and turn right. Station is approx 500 yards on left. there is a car park opposite that normally has spaces as it's next to a large Sainsbury that has a large free car park.
Trains approx every thirty mins and the return fare is £4.50. Journey time about 10 mins.

I'd park at the ground, either on official parking, or at one of the offsite car parks.
It's no issue getting to the ground as people arrive at different time, and while it's a queue to get out it's infinitely worse queuing for public transport after a game day.
I've been several times and always driven. On a recent occasion I left at the same time as friends who I went to the game with, and I drove home (about 30 miles north), and was actually in my house before my friends were still outside the tube station queuing.
Obviously YMMVLegal team on standby0
