hi managed to get ourselves our first holiday in 7 years abroad, so we are not well travelled. we are going all inclusive. So i dont need lots of money, should i take both euros and turkish lira? dont need much cash other than the children want to buy some presents for there friends and we are not having inflight meals so may need to get a meal at the airport on the way home.
dont know how much to take with us? ive been checking online and the post office seems the cheapest and offer free delivery. just need to work out how much i need?
thanks

hi, oh they accept pounds aswell. We are going to antalya.
I dont know how expensive things are in turkey but would 100 euros be more than enough just for kids presents and maybe a meal onthe way home.
thanksListen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
Do not eat at Antalya airport. It will cost you more than your week's holiday did
Ok, maybe not quite that much but it's awfully expensive.
I was last there a couple of years ago, but I think 3 happy meals & one adults meal at burger king came to over £60.
And a tube of Pringles, & a diet coke can was about £10.
We were delayed
Nothing else in Turkey was that expensive. Just the airport. We took no money at all & used a cashpoint outside the resort to take out lira.0 -
Turks will accept anything , but in the Antalya region most shops you will be going to will display prices in the euro .The best value is the T.L. but ( are you going in the summer when its .. HOT!) do you really want to stand and convert three currencies in your head when the kids just want a few cheap pieces ......... I don't.
I spent 110 Euro's two years ago ( Two pairs of jeans) last year it was less than 30 euros.......... but we did not take the kids.maybe a meal onthe way home.
On the flight use Sterling , never think of buying food/ drink at Antalya airport , the prices are scary ....... but just have something to eat before leaving hotel , food will be on offer very nearly 24 hours a day.
We were leaving at 4am , so we ate at 1.am
Which hotel and exactly where......... don't forget the £10 note for EVERYONE. Don't offer to exchange currency for the coach driver, you will have a pocket full of coins for the rest of the hols, better to help out a fav at the end of the hols.
ps Suncream is very expensive take lots.0 -

We went to Turkey a few weeks ago, like you on an all inclusive holiday. We took turkish lira but found that the exchange rates in the hotel and in exchange places in the town were better than we had go in the UK, e.g. we would have been better to take UK cash and changed it over there.
Lots of places had prices in Euros but they all seemed happy to work out prices in Turkish lira or Sterling. We only spent about £100, quite a bit of that was on getting mine and my daughter's hair done at the resort hairdresser. We bought a few little presents in the town which didn't cost much (remember to try and bargain, I got a backgammon set for half the original price).
Hope you have a good time, we had a lovely holiday in Turkey.0 -
I was told by a Scottish colleague of mine that the traders in particular seem to love English £10 notes?0

I think he might have had trouble using Scottish notes.0 -
Take English notes and change in the resort. The rate will be much better.
Go to a restaurant or supermarket and get sandwiches, crisps etc for the journey home to eat at airport or on plane. A tray of cut melon or other fruit is a good alternative to drinks. Buy drinks before you get to airport then drink them before you go through security.
ps do the same on the way out. You can get meal deals and drinks from the airport once you have passed security and eat them on the journey.
Have a great time0 -
thankyou all ever so much for your replies. Ive got my £10 for the visa entry etc. someone at work have said there ar elots of markets, but they generally sell only fake goods.
we are staying at the delphin palace hotel in antalya. so take pounds so they can be exchanged over there. the flight out there is leaving about 6pm so we can eat something over here before hand and after going through security we can get some crisps etc for the kids, for the flight on the way home we can probably get breakfast at the hotel so again can probably get away with snacks for the flight home.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0
