Just be aware that the above is in relation to the USA.

I'm not 100% re UK laws but quite a bit of the above is not applicable here ie
"If you are pulled over with an unpaid speeding ticket on your record, the officer has a right to impound your vehicle. You will be left with a fine, a fee to rescue your car, and the original speeding ticket fine"

    etc
As far as I know this is UK applicable, albeit I could be mistaken, but even the link is a UK link.

I cannot imagine a UK advisory, relating itself to a US law unless specifically stated.

Maybe this link http://www.speedingfinesuk.co.uk/speeding_fines_paying.htm#What_will_happen_if_I_ignore_a_Fixed_Penalty_Notice (that is not that much different) which is exclusively UK will be more satisfactory for the OP. ;)

What was the speed and the limit? For example for 50 and above in a 30 it will almost certainly go straight to a summons. .

Thankfully the same also applies to average speed (40mph) drivers, who like to do 40-42mph absolutely everywhere, when they finally get caught charging through a 30 zone.
(the ones that p1ss you off in the 60 zone and they sit on your a** in the 30 zone)

Speeding is not a recordable offence so it will not create a criminal record.

But it must still be declared to prospective employers if they ask, until it's expired under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act, or, for certain sensitive roles such as police officer, forever.

Indeed, an old speeding fine (i.eabout 6 years old)showed up when i went through a clearance check - I had completely forgotten about it and therefore hadn't declared.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I spoke to the ticket & penalty office this morning and explained that I didn't receive the fixed penalty notice that they send and they send they will send me another fixed penalty offer which I have 10 days to respond to and aslong as I respond within 10 days I don't have to go to court! Phew, panic over!

For the record, it was 36 in a 30mph zone so I'm expecting 3 points and a £60 (?) fine

    No worries.
I just thought that the Uk did not have misdemeanor criminal charges.

    The last two points:

    Discontinued Registration

Failure to pay your speeding ticket could result in a lapsed registration. Invalid vehicle registration makes it illegal for you to drive your car, and could result in greater fines, and having your vehicle impounded, should you continue to drive anyway.
    Impound

If you are pulled over with an unpaid speeding ticket on your record, the officer has a right to impound your vehicle. You will be left with a fine, a fee to rescue your car, and the original speeding ticket fine.

These are surely not applicable here?

See here & here for seizure details.

Lapsed registration is not a UK term to my knowledge.

I'd imagine ehow.co.uk has just lifted the page from their .com site without proofreading it for UK applicability.

There is no power allowing police in the UK to seize vehicles for unpaid tickets.

But if a fine has been registered against you then under certain circumstances baliffs might be able to seize property.

  • Hi all .. i have received a (UK)notice of intended prosecution for speeding 35mph in a 30mph zone i actually dont have an argument for this as i know im n the wrong. But..there was a local council recycling lorry parked infront of the mobile camera van (about 50mtrs or so) blocking my view to the van..can i argue this point and i know i will be able to get evidence of this cause the lorries are now fitted with trackers, as i assume the van wld have to be visible to me the driver.
Also i never knew they could catch you for speeding when facing you i thought they cld only do this from the rear (excuse me im laughing cause it sounds rude) any advise most welcome.

The fact that you couldn't see the camera van will not matter.

If the speed limit signs were hidden that would be a different matter.
