Extracting the user/pword used to be standard practice with sky, however now theyre moving over to MER authentication you may also need to spoof the sky router's MAC address onto your own router before it'll work properly.....

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Terms state must use Sky's if it faulty thats Sky's cost not yours, you pay to access the service, if mobile company sim is faulty you get a free replacement. A router is same as a sim card - must be issued so you can adhere to the terms & payments of the contract, Sky have to provide a router.

When I worked for SkyBroadband in their Tier2 department,we (Sky) replaced the routers & Microfilters FOC,the only thing they charged for were the wireless dongles.
Although not entirely the same,I just had my O2 wireless box upgraded which didn't cost me as the one I had went faulty. (Kept dropping connection)

Tier 2 don't do that anymore Spike they have to charge now-basically too many people took the pee.

I'm trying to work out how you break a power button too-I've powered mine down a handful of times in the three years I've had it.

I'd speak to cancellations if you are going to cancel (or say you are) most will replace FOC at their discression (although it seems some take the view if people are nice they'll do it and if stroppy they won't in my experience)

Well it was a couple three years ago...:p
The only time my router's switched off is when I'm going away for over 24hrs,the rest of the time it's left on.I'm thinking the OP turns it on/off when they go to bed/work/don't use it,which isn't really necessary as the power consumption is negligible.
And I've also found that if you are nice to someone, you'll get far,get stroppy & you get nowhere.
  • Yes I always turn it off when I'm not using it, spoke to Sky again, still 'no go' on a replacement, but he did tell me to leave it switched on and just unplug it ,which then means I don't have to keep trying to use wobbly on/off switch.

Ask if they will provide a replacement power supply. This can go faulty and while the router appears to work it constantly drops connection.
They might be willing to send new power supply.

Routers are designed to be left on 24/7. Switching them off regularly can trigger DLM and result in slower than normal speeds.
If Sky won't play ball their are plenty for sale on Ebay.
