so raiderhammer the fact that genuine ink from say epson and another supplier using the same basic ink due to the fact epson dont actually make their ink, they use another company to make it, and the same company making epson ink also produce a slightly different ink for compatibles, basically a contract stating the company can not use the same ink they make for epson in other ink cartridges, so to get around that they ink manufacturer has slightly changed the ink but its pretty much produced at the same time but in a different vat will therefore cause problems if used in a epson? dont see it.
epson ink for my sx200 around £25 for a set of ink 4 was 3 years ago.
compatibles sx200, £10 when i bought them 3sets of 4+2extra blacks 14 carts. saving £15 ebay. ink-power.
but wait thats wrong, i'm going for 4 not 14 so i would still need to add on top another £50 for the another 8 genuines I would have had to buy, but then that would still be wrong due to the amount of ink in the cartridges, which is approx 1/3 of the compatibles in each genuine cartridge. 6ml, according to epsons site. and compatibles contain 18ml, times so thats 3 times yet again,
so £75 for genuine ink compared with £3-4 for 1 compatible set.
if epson use 6ml per cart, and compatible use 18ml per cart.
£25 for a set of genuine, x 3 for the same amount of ink, x3 for the same amount of cartridges minus the 2extra black, and you call it no real savings. please tell me i got those figures wrong,
small note the price of the compatibles has now been reduced to around 50p-60p per cartridge compared with the wow http://www.prink.co.uk/genuine-epson-t0715-multipack-ink-cartridges.php?cat=517 £34.56 for a set of 4, they have gone up in price, thought i do a price compare via google cause that seemed high, and nope found higher prices than that, considering the printer was only £45 and i still have the receipt for it.
still using the compatibles 3years down and still have 1 set left. due to the fact compatibles have 18ml in each compared with the 6ml in the originals if not less and after 3years and using these cartridges no problems with the printer.
After all its a known fact they most printer manufacturers supply half empty cartridges with their new printers so they run out quickly so customers have to go out and buy replacements.
my originals lasted 6weeks after buying the printer.
Each to their own, we all have our own experiences. Mine was I had endless hassle with non genuine inks and my printer eventually was in such a mess it was thrown. Down to the non genuine inks I don't know for sure, but I do know the hassle they caused me. I am using only genuine inks in the new printer and guess what - no hassles!
Like I said each to their own, I was just making my observations.0 -

Genuine Inks aren't the same as "cheapie" ink regardless if they are made in the same factory or not. Cheap ink tends to be thicker than genuine and doesn't usually contain anything that helpful for cleaning the heads like genuine ink does.
I'm not suggesting you don't use compatibles but you have to weigh the cost up, not only the ink but also the printer as non genuine ink will void the warranty. For example I run 2 printers 1 was a £35 epson job which from new has had compatibles in where as the other was a £200 printer that had only genuine for the first 12 months.
Replacing a £35 printer isn't a big deal because even after 2 sets of ink I had saved more than. The other is a lot more to replace 1 month in if I had of had a problem, a problem that might not have even been related to the ink being used. Saying that though after about 2 years the epson stopped printing black, changed the cartridge a couple of times still nothing totally blocked. Bought a genuine black at a staggering £20 ran that and it cleared the block and printed fine ever since. I won't get another genuine cartridge again though if it happens again I shall just replace the printer lol.
OP not familiar with your printer but as others have said ebay will give you plenty of results normally just check the sellers feedback well.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
I have an Epson Stylus 415 but do not print very often. I have tried compatibles but because they do not contain the 'special' fluid which genuine cartridges have, I ran into trouble. Therefore, I now use genuine without troubles. I have had to pay £30+ for a technician to clear my past problems.0

options 2 or 3, buy a CISS for your printer. as seem here
http://www.cityinkexpress.co.uk/ciss/hp/b109n/photosmart-series/dye-ink
personally dont like CISS as i fear the containers of ink falling over and loads of ink going everywhere. however these are suppose to be cheaper in the long run as you only have to fill the containers when they are low.

personally. I would go for this option. buy another printer that an all-in-one but would look at the price of the cartridges first.
The SX515 looks similar to the SX218 I brought recently which isn't wireless.
I brought it because of the "cheap "inks available, and have run a couple of sets through no problems.
It isn't such a good printer as the Canon that it replaced though, that ran on compatibles for 6 years or more, which had more functionality."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
