Many, many thanks for all your help, folks!
And yes, I will be onto those kiddies about no more monkeys jumping on the bed!!!
I thought I'd start looking now, as it will probably be about a month before I can finish the room and dress it, what with work and nutty toddlers...
Thanks again!Bossymoo

Are you planning to replace your duvet? We have an all seasons silk filled one, which was one of our best purchases ever, despite the price! It is warm enough for us in winter, but not too hot or sweaty in summer. Our old duvet was *supposed* to be all seasons, but frequently needed a spare duvet and/or a sleeping bag on top in winter. That said, it was pretty old and had been washed rather haphazardly when OH was a student, so not really surprising...
We also like the way the silk one drapes and feels, such a luxurious sensation! It is heavy for the thickness but doesn't feel heavy when you are under it in the way that thick blankets do, nor is it bulky like a duvet so warm would normally be. Unlike the thick synthetic or down ones, you are less likely to overheat too.
We got ours from gingerlily, but I know John Lewis also does them. The silk filled pillows are nice too (especially if you can't use feather ones due to allergies), though they are a bit firm for some people's preferences. I believe the half foam, half silk ones are softer if you prefer squishy pillows!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
I've bought most of my good stuff from charity shops - I used to think bedding was a no-no second hand but I'm much more MSE and OS these days and happily hot wash with disinfectant and then it's mine! My best buy was a lovely Sanderson duvet cover for £5.
I only buy 100% cotton too - I've tried various mixes but always found that it "pills" to varying extents depending on how much polyester there is in it. I don't mind the crumpled effect of freshly washed cotton (what's an iron again?)
I have to admit I'd love to have enough money to do it properly and buy things that match, but hey ho!I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Another vote for John Lewis and it just has to be Egyptian cotton with a high thread count.....nothing else comes close to being as good imho! I prefer unfitted sheets as I have a top and bottom sheet under the duvet and it makes for more even wear. My sheets and pillowcases are about 5 yrs old now, washed weekly and are still in perfect condition. In fact they are even better now as they are just sooooo smooth and silky...no signs of thinning and no 'bobbling'.
Quilt has to be goose down....a sprung mattress with a memory foam mattress topper and a selection of memory foam pillows and goose down pillows. I lurve my bed :heartpuls!!!!!0 -
For those on a budget, I find that Matalan do nice Egyptian cotton bedding.Normal people worry me.0

400-600thread count cotton bedding
It can be really expensive but I've seen it at good prices in DAPW.co.uk, Dawsons Dept Store, Costco and Dunelm Mill.
As God is my witness, as God is my witness they're not going to lick me. I'm going to live through this and when it's all over, I'll never be hungry again0 -
for the bed base, have a look at the WARREN EVANS website, they currently have a 50% sale, making them affordable. they are solid wood, they will stain them to your specification and do the drawers too. they are so solid and chunky they will literally last a lifetime. as the base is wooden slats you only ever have to replace the mattress. they deliver and put it together for you. hth.0

we have the 600 count bedding. It is silky soft and we don`t need to iron. Beautiful fabric
Also mulberry silk duvets. We each have a single duvet on a ks bed. They are all year around ie suitable for any season by using different combinations0 -
The best bedding I have found is Dunelm's Hotel 400 thread count. It comes in either white or ivory and is the best I've found.
Some higher thread counts actually use a thinner yarn to increase the thread count. And you especially find this over 500 tc.TL0 -
