Good Quality Bedding

Hi All
Not very MSE I know, but I'm splashing out and about to gut and redecorate my bedroom. I've looked on the shopping boards but can't find anything relevant, so I thought you lovely OSers might be able to help.
So, what I'm after is some thoughts on the best quality bedding. I'm happy to spend a bit more for something that will last, and hopefully feel quite luxurious. I'll be looking for kingsize fitted sheets, possibly percale, and duvet / pillowcase sets. I prefer the feel of cotton, rather than something satiny or flanelette.
Oh and I'm also having a new bed, so if you have any suggestions that would help too. I'd like some underbed storage, drawers rather than a lift up one. It needs to be quite sturdy as I have two bouncing toddlers (hence the need for a new bed!) even though I tell them not to, I'm forever chasing them off the bed. Maybe I also need a trampoline... :rotfl:
Many thanks!

Can't help with the bedlinen, as I'm a cheapskate, but I got a La Romantica bed 2 years ago and it was the best money we have ever spent.
As for the toddlers, the day you get your new bed, put an immediate ban on bed-bouncing and enforce it with penalties. Use the new bed as a fresh start. My kids always bounced on my bed, but the minute I got the new one, they knew it was out-of-bounds and have respected that. Start as you mean to go on, otherwise they will have your new one ruined in no time.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These

Hi Bossymoo...
No not very old school MSE indeed, but if you take a wander over to the shopping board you'll find some info there.
I started a thread last week in the I wanna buy it or do it board about luxury bedding.... you'll find some good info there.
And I would prob search or post about the bed there too.... im sure anyone thats seen some recent good deals will let you know

Im fussy with bedding and usually buy from Laura Ashley when the sales are on or John Lewis. Only like 100% cotton and our bedding has to be changed twice weekly minimum, so need it to wash well too. I like the higher count threads.
TKMaxx are good to buy good quality at cheaper prices.

I would take a trip to TK Maxx/Home Sense if you want top quality bedding without the big price tag.
I got a gorgeous super king sized duvet cover and pillow set (V&A museum branded) for £20 and a lovely king sized Hobbs duvet cover for about £17. They have some lovely stuff; great quality and reasonably priced for a treat!0 -
I've bought a fair amount of bedlinen from Dawson's Dept store over the years and the quality has been second to none. I've had quite a few sets at 70/80% off which is great too.
I prefer high thread count cotton and they have a very good selection
If you sign up to their newsletter they will send you discount codes which range from 10-20% off on top of the discounted prices so well worth doing. Not sure if there is a code on the dicount codes forum at the moment but they are often posted there too.
The only trouble is choosing just one set:)0 -
Go for the highest thread count you can find, we have 240 american Supima cotton from Debenhams and it is lovely and very hard wearing.0

just going to comment on a bed. try loads and spend as much as you can afford. its the age old argument for me, you spend so much time in it, make sure it's right. i spent what i considered to be a fortune on a bed. it was worth it, still love it after having it over a year. i call it my hotel bed. not had a bad nights sleep in it yet, and so inviting. can't really suggest what you should buy because we are all different. good luck with it.
oh and stop the kids jumping on it. ;-)Opinion on everything, knowledge of nothing.0 -
My bedding choices are either John Lewis or Ikea. I can't speak more highly of the sets we have from John Lewis - they were worth every penny. Ikea get my vote for second choice because their sheets are very good value for money and their pillows survive all sorts of rough treatment.
On the bed front, the best thing we ever bought was our matress. It's made of a heavy duty foam - the predecessor of the current memory foam/tempur matresses. (Not a spring in site.) The bed itself is just a pine base with optional drawers underneath. We got both from Beds are Uzzzzz.... in Greenford (London). Good customer service and a good price."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.' "

My bed linen is all by Dorma. I have never paid full-price for any of it. The sets I have at present were all half-price as they were ones that had just been discontinued when I bought them. It's lovely and looks the same no matter how often you wash it. I have got one set that I bought really cheaply on ebay. The woman had used it once and decided she didn't like the colour! I gave it a nice hot wash and it looked new. I have to admit I can now always tell when I am sleeping on cheap bedlinen when I stay somewhere!0

100% cotton is lovely but can dry crumpled and life's far too short for wasting it ironing sheets, duvet covers and pillow-cases. That's why I choose Percale or 50/50 cotton/polyester. The feel is very similar to pure cotton but fewer problems with wrinkling.
I'm fond of scouring the John Lewis sales and I'm very fussy about what colours, shades and patterns I'll accept so it takes me yonks to find what I want. One thing I do, because I like deep-dyes is to never wash them using detergents which will lighten the colours and always turn them inside-out so the wear from the machine is always on the inside where you can't see it. They do have some lovely sets in TKMaxx which appear to be very good value.
I can't advise about beds themselves because it's so very long since I bought one although I could really do with a new mattress but the budget says NO! DEFINITELY NOT.
If money was no object I'd be having a very close look at The White Company website, especially when they're having a sale. Their linens and furniture are really beautiful and extremely good quality. I only wish that when I worked for them a very long time ago I could have afforded to have bought some of their merchandise. That's a lifetime-long investment, for certain.0
