car insurance for 17 year olds

  • Hi there!

I am new to this board and came across this Post. We are in the process of getting Insurance for our 17 year old son, he has a Provisional licence, his Car is a Vauxhall Corsa 1195. The quotes we have had range between £1500 and almost £3000!

Was just curious as to whether anyone else had tried Quinn Direct recently, I noticed that Sally29 had a quote from them for £700, they quoted us £1270.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

try https://www.ecarinsurance.co.uk it came in miles cheaper for me when i first passed and also the excesses arent off this planet either! they also gave me a years free no claims bonus after just 8 months too although im not sure if they still do this!
    I LOVE MSE! :money:
  • Thanks for your reply Laneyboo. Tried them, and they came out with £1250. After 72 hours of searching around  Swintons have the lowest quote of £1052.00.

Seems like lots of people have the same frustrations!

    Thanks again,

    Colette.

Have you tried Asda car insurance? My son took the pass plus and asda worked out the cheapest in his name, and me and his dad are insured to drive it too which brought the price down a little ,Good Luck .

  • Thanks Kazzzyliz!

However just looked on their website and you have to have a full UK licence, unfortunately he only has a Provisional one at present.

    Thanks again,

    Colette.

The son of my next door neighbour had his little Rover insured using her name but I believe it was mentioned on Working Lunch on BBC2 not long ago that in the event of a claim the insurance becomes invalid.

Yes, this is correct. It is called fronting and is fraud.

Point one- It isnt Fraud until it has been proven in a criminal court. ;)

Point two- the Insurance company will not automatically not pay out. It will first conduct investigations into the background of the claiment, the likliehood of the claiments sibling being in reality the main driver and the costs incurred in refusing to pay out a claim. IF (and a big IF) they can justify it, they will void or cancel the policy, taking the policy holder to court to attempt to regain any spent monies so far.
