Its not going to be cheap with any company for your 17yr old son. Try sites such as confused.com and moneysupermarket. Check who is the cheapest then make sure you check Quidco and see what cashback you can get.

You cant insure the car if your son is the owner and keeper and there would be no insurable interest.

I know it wil be expensive for your son but if he drives claim free for 12mths he will get his own NCD which will be approx 30%

    Hiya

I know its going to be expensive to insure your son, but please dont insure his car in your name. This is called fronting and is insurance fraud.

Look at sites like confused.com who will search through most insurance companies for the best quote for him.

Does he have a low group car? will it be in a garage? These things will help to lower his premium.

    Good luck

Hi - try Quinn Direct and Ecarinsurance as both specialize in young drivers.

Has his driving instructor mentioned the pass plus scheme? This can save up to 30%.Both Quinn & Ecar are in it.

Other to try are Elephant and Endsleigh.

    Best of luck.

My son reduced his premium by 50% with Norwich Union by doing his Pass Plus
Not all companies offer that reduction you have to check

Check cashback deals through https://www.quidco.com. You can get up to £150 back when you purchase online through a Quidco link (easy to sign up if you haven't already).
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.

I was thinking of getting pass plus but does having one gives you 30% off or UPTO 30% off? How do they work out how much they let you off then if its upto?
  • Admiral and elephant (who are the same people) are both great for young drivers... Definatly worth getting quotes from them. Also try tesco -their also pretty cheap.

Pass plus did nothing to any of my insurance quotes - its good for some expiriance but a bit of a waste of time for insurance!

I didnt do pass plus but was considering it and asked about it and the cheapest offered were still cheapest even though it made no difference to those ones but did to some of the more expensive (norwich union etc.) In the end I am on my mums insurance and she is the registered owner of the car still expensive though and it's gone up the past two years even with the added no claims and my age/experience increasing, 19 by the way.

Using the screen scrapers will still be one of the best ways to find the cheapest and maybe doing a search for 'young car insurance' and trying the results, maybe help to get some of the more specialised companies.
