I'm planning on having someone do both my hair and make-up. This is one thing that I really really really want and would sacrifice other things to have...I figure it's probably the only time in my entire life I will ever get my make-up and hair done professionally, and I want to feel amazing. I have long hair and can't do much with it myself, and I don't know anyone who could do it for me either. As for make-up, I wear very little on a day-to-day basis but am quite good at doing my own for special occasions etc, but still feel that nothing I can do is as good as a professional, and I want it to be perfect.

However I'm agonising over whether we can really afford the same for the bridesmaids! I think I might get someone to do their hair but not their make-up, but even that still looks very expensive.
  • I did want my hair and make up doing by a pro but now I've seen how much it costs .

I'm not too bad at curling my hair with straightners so might opt for that now but I'm not the best at doing make up. I was thinking of maybe having a make up lesson perhaps but I don't really know how to go about arranging this. Is this something that can be done at the make up counters in department stores? If so can anyone recommend this / advise what the cost would be?

    Cheers

I opted for a professional to do my hair as i am useless!!!! I bought some real clip-in hair extensions for my big day and i chose to have my hair up because i thought it would look better against my dress than to have my hair down. Here are some close up pics of my hair trial of how i had my hair on my big day

I was a total novice when it came to applying makeup so what I did was make appointments (either pop in or phone) at a few beauty counters. I explained that I wanted a makeover for my wedding and that I am useless at applying it, and the girls would explain how to apply each product and gave me tips as they went.

I tried Clinique, Lancome, Dior, Clarins and Bare Minerals. I only had to pay for the Clarins makeover (which was £15), but that was redeemable against any purchases I made. I use Clarins skincare so that wasnt a problem for me, but if I had to pay for any of the other brands I wouldnt have bothered.

I ended choosing Bare Minerals - which incidentally the girls make up half of your face and you do the other half which you might find useful.

I have had a few practice runs and I'm not too bad now.

Also I tried to pick beauty counters where the girls were a bit older (I'm a mature bride) and I felt they would understood my skin and needs a bit better.

Visit as many counters as you can and only buy when you are happy. I would tell the girls at the outset that I wouldnt be buying any of their products that day as I wanted to make sure the make up would last all day, that I wanted my OH to see it etc. They should understand this.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!!

Well I've just booked in a lady to do my hair and make-up.... https://www.shelletyturner.com. I like the look of her stuff and I like the idea of having one person doing both. Excited now!

I'm having both done professionally - but only coz the hairdresser is my sister's best friend, and it's the hairdressers mum that is doing our make up (she works on a make up counter in a department store). We are getting hair for me, 2 bridesmaids, my mum and 2 flower girls for £200, and make up for me and 2 bridesmaids for £85 I think. (One of my bridesmaids is paying for the make up, and my other bridesmaid (my sister) is paying for half the hair.). This is for them coming to the house the morning of the wedding.

If it hadn't been for knowing someone, we would be going to the hair salon and doing our own make up.

ETA - Bride2be24, your wedding hair is very similar to what I'm having done!
